The food is great quality, the place is authentic and vivacious and the owner is simply Magnificent. DO NOT MISS OUT ON THIS YOU WILL THANK MR BERTELLI WITH EYES FULL OF JOY
A nice little place that sells three products (finocchiona, salami and pecorino) and two types of wine (white and red), of excellent quality, all at zero km, and at excellent prices. We were lucky enough to be the only ones in the shop and we had a pleasant chat with the owner.
We have no regrets of stopping by this place we did not want the food to end. You get to choose which salami/cheese you want and he explains where it is made. There is no oils or butter, which makes it better as you get to experience the taste of salami and cheese. We took a glass of wine with it too.
Truth be told, we found this place by chance but enjoyed being off the beaten track and having a simple sandwich served by Brunello at his marble counter. He obviously takes pride in his ingredients (bread, salami and cheese all within 10km) and his family's history. It was a real treasure to find.
We searched this place out based on the TripAdvisor reviews. It is a little tough to find, as it is a small shop on a back street. As other reviewers have said, this is a simple sandwich two choices of salami, pecorino cheese, and fresh, unsalted Tuscan bread. Red or white wine, or you can get a drink from the cooler. Oh, and you need to be able to speak some Italian as Signore Bertelli doesn't speak much English. So why go? Go for the experience! Watch as Signore Bertelli pulls your salami or cheese from the case and note the sign that explains how far away it was made (all within about 6 miles). Watch as he carefully slices everything by hand and lays it out on a marble table. The only question he has for you is whether or not you want it cut in half before he wraps it in butcher paper and hands it to you with a smile. In this fast food world, go to keep the tradition alive. It's clear from the walls that the Bertellis have been doing this for a couple of hundred years, and they take great pride in making your simple sandwich which was delicious by the way. This is a true Tuscan experience.
