When we asked the locals where they ate, everyone knew and recommended this place. The location is hidden away across from Office Depot. Food is excellent, prices cheap, staff were very patient with our less than fluent Spanish, and attentive. We were in Campeche for a month, and found ourselves going back over and over again. The only downside is that they often closed at 6pm. View all feedback.
It's not really a restaurant but more of a permanent food stall. We went here one afternoon around 3.30 or so, and I think it was close to closing time (they apparently close at 4 or 4.30), there was a family having a meal and we sat down to order. The server comes over with an annoyed look on his face and asks what we want in a civil and cold voice (which is very WEIRD for Mexico), so we order, my husband was struggling with a Spanish word and immediately el joven switches to speaking English, with an attitude that said "stupid foreigners don't try to speak Spanish, I can speak English". By now I was really ticked off with his manner and got really irritated as he looked, acted and spoke English like the stereotype US Latino, he was really acting like a "bad boy" muchacho. If he didn't want to serve us, say so, we would have been happy to walk away but don't give me attitude, or maybe he didn’t like us; a gringo with a “Latina looking” East Indian woman? The food was ok, nothing great, I ordered a fish taco and it arrived with two small pieces of battered deep fried fish with one tortilla. It tasted fine but honestly with an attitude like that I wasn't interested in trying other stuff and it really turned me off my meal.We have travelled for a number of years all over Mexico and I can safely say we have NEVER encountered behaviour like that EVER!!!! I get it, everybody has a bad day, it's annoying to have to deal with people who don't speak Spanish very well, after a long, hard day but be polite. I just hope that we went on a bad day when they had "el hombre" on staff, and this joint is actually much better with food and service for other visitors.I was so sad and disappointed with what happened at La Hora Del Taco as I love eating at stalls in Mexico, many of the street vendors sever the BEST food, but hey there is a first time for everything. Will I go back if I'm ever in Campeche again? Sure I will, but will run away if “el muchacho” is serving.

I happened to drop in here one afternoon, starving. They had the most amazing fish tacos in the afternoon. A few nights later, I returned with my two extremely picky eaters. Fish by day changes to meat by night. The most amazing carne asada I have ever had was at this place with incredibly friendly, laid back service, at incredible prices. The picky eaters loved the quesadilla and refried beans. Almost a month later they are still talking about the food. We were only sorry that it was our last night in Campeche and we couldn't return for more meals! When we return to Campeche, we will definitely return to La Hora del Taco!
