Nice local restaurant where you can enjoy several types of soups. There are different options, also for vegetarians. You can also order additions like noodles, rice etc to add in the soup. The portions are quite large and the soups we tried were really tasty (even if a bit heavy) View all feedback.
What Danielle Flückiger doesn't like about El Caldero:
We visited the place after seeing positive reviews on tripadvisor. The best cheap eats place in San Cristobal. Total lie. Our taco (chicken, beef and pork) was awful. You get a much better deal at any of the stands in the markets. Do not visit. PS the staff was very nice, but that does not help when they are selling below average food. View all feedback.

What a great variety of soups, and in a relatively cool city. Great flavors, and great value! My favorite is the Caldero, because the black beans don't overwhelm the soup, but, instead, is more like an upscale version of frijoles charros. Highly recommended.
It has all kind of soups. Everything is authentic Mexican...the totopos and tortillas are home made...good portions. During the week, they have promotions. During the week, you get something special for free like a beer with your dish or dessert. Not on weekends. The staff is friendly...you have to try it of you come to San Cristobal....I highly recommended...
We walked by this place and went inside… HIDDEN GEM! It’s decorated so nice inside and it has a nice rooftop. Very good service. The pizza here was amazing.
We went for lunch and found that the food and the service were both excellent. Watch out for the green picante it is hot.
