I visited this place to try the famous puffy tacos, and they exceeded my expectations. I placed a to-go order, and the server who assisted me was incredibly friendly and offered great suggestions. I will definitely come back when I'm in the San Antonio area again! View all feedback.
What User doesn't like about Ray's Drive Inn:
This restaurant offers delicious food at reasonable prices. The tacos were packed with fresh ingredients, and the staff was very friendly. However, I have to mention that the bathrooms were not up to par. Additionally, I experienced long wait times for orders, especially during the noon rush, which averaged 15-20 minutes. It seems that prioritizing drive-in orders contributed to this delay; if all orders were process... View all feedback.
Fantastic puffy tacos. I'm trying to make them at home since I don't live in San Antonio and of course I fall short. Update 1-2-2024 I brought my kids here while traveling and wanted to show them the original puffy tacos I was trying to copy all these years. Well I guess my memory was all roses and not reality about Ray's because the whole family likes my puffy tacos better and they are quite a bit better than Ray's. I was shocked. At $5 per taco after you add cheese, tax, and tip it was over $50 for 4 people for just tacos? Still yummy, not as yummy as I remembered, and grossly overpriced.
We dined here twice in one week because our first experience was fantastic! On our second visit, we were fortunate enough to get the same table and waitress. Irma remembered all four of our special requests from five days earlier! I highly recommend stopping by and trying the puffy tacos or the chicken fajita plate.
The puffy tacos were surprisingly impressive! The lettuce, tomatoes, and avocado were incredibly fresh. I found the chicken puffy tacos to be even more flavorful than the beef ones. They were fantastic! The enchiladas were decent, but the tortillas served with the meal tasted and looked like they were store-bought, which isn't ideal, especially in San Antonio. Nonetheless, the overall dining experience was good. We will definitely return for those delicious chicken puffy tacos!
It’s a fantastic spot with a charming historic ambiance. The Mexican dish was a delicious Tex-Mex treat!
We were looking to get our San Antonio puffy taco fix satisfied and figured we’d try the original. Excellent choice! Had a beef and a carne guisada and both were delicious fully loaded and wonderful crispiness to the shells. But more than that the entire vibe of the place was awesome full of old thyme random knickknacks. Loved it!
