Luciano La Cantera - San Antonio

The reservation system is a bit odd. We arrived and were told that they do not take reservations by the hostess. We talked to our server who was more experienced and she said she typically blocks tables for reservations but she hadn 't that day. We had no issue getting a table at the appointed time though. The menu is classic Italian food and not a bunch of made up American Italian dishes and they are outstanding. We even were able to get a bottle of wine with our meal which was not outrageously jacked up in price. Highly recommend Luciano 's.

The restaurant offers a great dining experience. The chicken bacon pizza was well-balanced and generously topped with speck. They also made adjustments to other dishes without being asked; one diner requested to swap penne for spaghetti, and they accommodated that. The service was excellent.

The prices were somewhat steep for the portion sizes. We ended up ordering spaghetti and meatballs ($18), chicken parmesan ($20), and penne rustiche ($20 with an additional $4 charge). While the flavors were better than average, the garlic rolls served with our meal were quite lacking in taste—more like they were missing garlic entirely and hadn't been seasoned properly. On a positive note, our server was excellent and very attentive. Overall, the meal was decent, but I wouldn't rush back anytime soon. The pizza looked like a customer favorite, so I might give that a try on my next visit.

We had a reservation for six people at 6 PM and arrived 15 minutes early. Upon arrival, we were informed that only outdoor seating was available, which was not ideal given the chilly 50-degree weather, so we opted to wait for an indoor table. After 45 minutes without a message about our table, I decided to check in at the front, and we were promptly seated inside. I attribute this delay to the inexperience of the young staff. However, once we were seated, our waiter Tien truly made a difference. He provided attentive and exemplary service that redeemed the experience for us. The food was also very good, elevating the restaurant's reputation to a place we would consider visiting again. We highly recommend it for a family-friendly outing.
