Food was very good but the temperature inside the restaurant was most uncomfortable. All of us (7) were freezing and unable to remove our jackets. It was extremely cold inside. None of us understood why the a/c was on. Certainly no need since the temperature outside was in the 40s and raining. View all feedback.
What User doesn't like about La Fogata Cantina Alamo Heights:
We waited 25 min for our first drinks to arrive, ran out of water and a member of our table went back to the station and brought a water pitcher, refilled our drinks, took it back and no one even noticed. We’re there for a total for 95 minutes with one round of drinks, no water, and mediocre food. Don’t go! View all feedback.
Now, let's talk about the food. Our chicken nachos were a pleasant surprise; each chip was packed with flavor, and the chicken was perfectly seasoned. The combination of chicken, beans, and cheese was truly delightful. I ordered the carnitas plate, and I must say, the portion size was enormous—enough to satisfy me three times over! And I can't forget about the hand-pressed tortillas; they were definitely a highlight. The charro beans were a steal—I'm not sure how they managed to pack so much flavor into them, but they were the first thing I finished. The ambiance of the restaurant was fantastic. The Latin music created a pleasant dining experience, and the natural lighting was vibrant enough to encourage exploration of the surroundings. I couldn’t capture a good photo of the impressive cocktails being crafted by the bartenders, but they were certainly eye-catching. Overall, I rate this establishment a solid 5 out of 5 and would eagerly return. If you're in the San Antonio area, I highly recommend stopping by La Fogata. They have truly elevated this cuisine, and I hope they continue to do so!
I kept the reservation primarily because I noted that we were celebrating my birthday; however, the hostess only acknowledged that after I mentioned it once, and it was the last time it was brought up. We were seated near a table of regulars who seemed to receive much more attention than we did. I noticed that house margaritas were $5 every day, so I ordered a frozen margarita with tajin. For food, we started with the chile con queso ($10) along with our chips, and for our main courses, we ordered enchiladas mixta ($16) and a bowl of caldo de pollo ($11). Our entrees arrived remarkably quickly, but our queso took a while longer and only came out after we inquired about it. When we asked, the waitress appeared confused about our request. Eventually, we received a small side of queso. When our plates were cleared, we still had almost half of our meals left, and there was no mention of to-go containers. We ordered sopapillas with a scoop of ice cream for dessert, but were only brought three small sopapillas ($6) without any ice cream. By that point, we had given up hope. Our total bill came to around $57 before tip, but since we didn’t keep the receipt, I’m not sure how we reached that amount. While the food was good, I don't think we will return or recommend this restaurant.
The restaurant has a pleasant atmosphere, and we were seated at a table for twelve. At the time, there weren't many other diners, but the wait for our food was extremely long. The environment is laid-back, and while everything was fresh and the flour tortillas were excellent, the food itself was hit or miss. If you're looking for authentic Mexican cuisine, I would recommend steering clear of this place. Overall, it wasn't a terrible experience, but the food didn't impress me, and the wait was far too lengthy. The pozole was underwhelming, and the crispy tortilla that accompanied it tasted overwhelmingly greasy.
Came here for a late lunch and to check out this location since I had never been. There was only about 4 other small groups eating in the restaurant, and it's a pretty big space for this corner lot! Our food was great, same quality as you'd expect. It came out fairly quickly and was delicious and fresh. Now the reason why I'm docking 2 stars off is because of the service we received (or didn't) from our waitress. She was very sweet, but she kept disappearing for long periods of time when we needed drink refills and more chips salsa. Mind you, there was only 3 small groups dining and 1 small group at the bar. It was NOT busy at all. We had a hard time understanding our lack of service. Overall I'm glad I came, but will probably not recommend this place due to lack of service.
This restaurant is a favorite of my brother and sister-in-law who used to live in San Antonio. This location is one of the newest ones, and it is beautifully decorated. The staff was friendly and attentive. My friend and I started with drinks. My Smoke on the Water was quite strong at first, but it turned out to not be well mixed. Our food was absolutely delicious. I don 't usually enjoy Mexican rice, but I ate every bite of theirs. The Chile Poblano al Carbon allowed me to enjoy a stuffed poblano pepper, one of my favorites, without any breading. The chicken was tender and delicious as was the rest of the meal. I now understand why this restaurant is a family favorite, and I will definitely visit it again the next time I visit San Antonio.
