We thoroughly enjoyed the "Queen" crab pot at this restaurant. We started our progressive meal in the afternoon overlooking the river walk. The food had a perfect taste and the service was fabulous. The crab was sweet and the manager even came to show us how to eat the dishes quickly and efficiently. The meal included potatoes, corn, crab, and drawn butter. Highly recommended! View all feedback.
What User doesn't like about Joe's Crab Shack:
We only had an hour to find a place to eat, but since it was the day after Christmas and many workers didn't show up, we decided to go to Alcapuco's just for a drink. Once we received our table, we were promptly served by a laid-back waitress who didn't mind when we placed our order right away. Our drinks and appetizers arrived first, including a delicious old fashioned and some tasty fireballs with crispy fries. I o... View all feedback.
Great location to enjoy seafood at the river banks. host and server were both very friendly and about the dinge. the seafood steam was a tad overboiled, fresh, but overboiled so 1 star less. overall I would go back!
The shrimp was excellent, just wish I had ordered more. It was then end of the night so they were getting ready to stop taking patrons which caused service to lag a little.
Went for spring break.. we got there around 1130ish am. The doors were locked but a patron was coming out and he let me and my kids come in. The host was very rude and upset that we got in and kept making faces and was clearly mad that we made it inside. But he sat us down. Our waiter was amazing and the food was very, very good! We enjoyed calamari and the queen crab legs. Overall, the food was great, our waiter was awesome. The host definitely needs more training in customer service; kept repeating to us, DO NOT OPEN THE DOOR OR LET ANYONE IN!!!And only about 6 tables were filled in the whole restaurant!! The 3 stars are for that rude host in the front..
Place was packed. If you like big crab and greasy food with beer, that's the place. We eat Calamari as appetizer and the bread crumbs used come out so was a naked calamari
Writing this review is painful but it’s finally time for me to accept there is a change. We live in Houston but visit San Antonio often. For years our process is to drive to San Antonio, the riverwalk area, check into our hotel and immediately go to Joe’s Crab Shack on the riverwalk. Call it our arrival celebration. Being members of the Landry’s Select Club, we have also visited various restaurants in the Landry’s brand. The service at the Riverwalk location has been good through the years but the food quality has changed. We were sitting in this location in March 2020 when all the pandemic news really started to heat up. The food was still ok but we noticed a change. Because of the pandemic, we didn’t return to San Antonio until March 2021, but we were not happy with the food again. However, I blamed it on the pandemic, thinking maybe supply, or struggling with help. In October 2021, the food came out cold and we actually complained, and they made us a new dish. We just returned as we spent the last four days in San Antonio again for my wife’s birthday. I had hoped this dish would’ve been better, but it wasn’t. The shrimp was warm, at best, with little flavor and the bacon-wrapped shrimp had been overcooked with the bacon so charred it simply crumbled when touched. My wife joked and said let’s get out of here and go get dinner. I knew it wasn’t good and this was for her birthday. All in all, it appears we will be changing our arrival routine after all these years.
