From the servers to the drinks to the food, everything was amazing! This is our second time here this time with friends and it was their first time. Only complaint I have is that the oysters we got had pieces of shells broken in the mix and it was unexpected (never has happened to me before) so took away a bit from enjoying the oyster but overall a small detail. We got sushi, sake bombs, the rockfish and a couple dif... View all feedback.
What DebraL doesn't like about Lionfish Restaurant at The Pendry Hotel:
To start with bartender was friendly, however spent far too much time chatting with coworker, server was helpful and truly professional. The branzino was extremely small with far too little meat and very costly. View all feedback.
They fire the Saturday evening host, they told me that they were fully booked and only the bar was available. bar was full, I moved on open table and could reserve a 1 tip immediately. back to the hostage and was immediately seated by a clearly annoyed host. server was great. friendly, attentive and informed about drinks and eating. I forget her name, but I served the high tops. I had a sushi roll and the skallops. I would order the sushi again. scallops were so over boiled, I forced myself to finish, but the others were for the one. manager was great, he helped out and took my card to pay, he asked how the meal was and I was hesitating to speak as I did not complain. he took the food problem out of me and took the bill. I didn't mention the host at this moment. next time I'm in san diego, I give them a second chance to eat.
Lionfish never disappoints! the staff is always so friendly, atmosphere energetic and eating is absolutely delicious. I love to come back and look forward to the next!
Great staff and we were thrilled by the delicious aromas of eating. a must!
I had previously been to LionFish (pre Covid and had an exceptional meal and experience. Hence, why I came back. Hitting the bar might be ok, but this experience was mediocre and has me second guessing another attempt: Ambiance: we were seated in the far back, early dinner (we had a show , so it was a largely vacant room Drinks: I had their special bourbon and fig old fashioned like drink it was overly sweet, hard to taste the bourbon over the sugar crunchy sugar bits in it. Not my deal. Food caveat: I am a celiac and so require accommodations that may mean no sauce (soy sauce is a non starter , but I do expect higher end restaurants to have alternatives as opposed to 'naked ' food. Apps: had the duck tostadas they were good, copious duck, but lacking in anything exceptional. Just dry shredded duck. Good crispy tostada. Just no umph. Dinner: Steak, and Brussel sprouts and the duck entre. Steak was cooked medium, Brussel sprouts had a bland cream (plain sour cream? dolloped on them. The duck was forgettable not succulent, and in my opinion, overcooked (I don 't remember any crispy skin on it... . Overall an unremarkable meal. Very expensive. Two cocktails, two glasses of wine. ALL this for $350! Reflecting on it, I am bummed because the image I have is a 'hotel restaurant ' (which this IS... but not on the scale of The Pendry, which I expect a strong chef to run, but it felt more of a "this came from our production kitchen that is also doing a conference rubber chicken dinner next door. No character. For food ignorants that go for the hype and cool looking bar (or primary access to the club later that night. Ouch. Sorry. Just not what I expected.
Just another generic overpriced restaurant in the gas lamp district.
