LATE NIGHT! It can be challenging finding food after 10pm in Salzburg, or anywhere in Europe for that matter. Luckily, Sabroson is one of the few places open until midnight(Saturday). This is a no frills but affordable and decent Italian restaurant that also serves some traditional Austrian dishes. Pasta and pizza start at around €7, other entrees go from about €10-20. The wife's meat sauce spaghetti was average, but my gnocchi was above average. We also got a big salad to share that was good enough. Unfortunately, beer and wine is a little higher priced than anywhere else in Austria...boo!
We ordered homemade bread as a starter and they brought it to us hot, right out of the oven. It was served with olive olive and Balsamic vinegar, of course. So good! Three of the four people ordered pizza in our group. The pizza Toscano was amazing with the fresh basil. One person ordered the spaghetti al forno and said it was the best she had tasted. Great place, fast and friendly service, and menus in English which was much appreciated by us non-German speaking Americans.
I'm not sure why the reviews are not better for this place. My husband and I found it to be a cozy, quiet and romantic environment. It was tastefully decorated for Christmas and was a nice break from the bustling crowds of the holiday markets. I enjoyed a garlic and olive oil pasta (which they added shrimp to at request and my husband thoroughly enjoyed the Diavolo (spelling? pizza. I tasted his pizza--it was delicious and had a nice, spicy seasoning. He also had a lovely glass of red wine and I had a generously sized Aperol spritz. Our waiter spoke very good English and even gave us directions to the Old town's Christmas market. I would definitely recommend this to visiting friends.
