Went for a day spa and afternoon tea. Was so nice. Staff are lovely. Coulddo with sorting out lockers that needed new batteries, door lock broken on loo door. Regulars said been broken for a while. Beside that we really enjoyed Service: 5 Location: 5 View all feedback.
What Sarah Storr doesn't like about Macdonald Craxton Wood:
I wouldn't bother. Shabby room, spa was awful, dinner inedible, breakfast tiny, drinks overpriced. Didn't mind spending a good chunk of money for a relaxing weekend but this was anything but. Rooms: 2 Service: 2 Location: 2 View all feedback.

Overall a bit disappointed. For the price the hotel is very tired and really in dire need of an update, or at least a lick of paint. Our room was fine but the bathroom was very dated. The staff were all lovely, apart from a rather grumpy and absent barman. The breakfast was reminded me of one I would expect to find in a hospital canteen after a nightshift and not worth the additional charge. The pool facilities were reasonable and warm enough for our toddler although it’s a bit of a walk from main hotel site. We stayed for 2 nights and to be honest we were looking for alternatives for the second night as it really wasn’t what we were expecting or hoping for! Following some research there aren’t many options in the area which I think being able to keep the relatively high price tag £250/night). On chatting to some locals at a family event it seems that it used to be very smart and “the place” to stay in the area so perhaps is also still riding on those coat tails. If you need to stay in the area it’s fine but is not a destination hotel and I’d not bother with breakfast. Doesn’t really feel good value for money!
In all not a bad place however for the premium we paid should of been better 30 for 2 drinks is unacceptable and the portions of breakfast were tiny. The room had a stain on the carpet the TV was from 2007 and only had Freeview with bad quality. The staff are lovely but I did feel like staff had left due to work conditions and now they are grabbing whoever they can to fill slots. Even with a premium room everything costs extra. Would I go again probably not, did I have a good time, yes I did. Would I have gone again if it wasn't such a ripp off? Absolutely
Absolutely loved the stay staff were friendly and very accommodating the food in evening was superb. The room old but nice and big, only thing was cooked breakfast but apart from that would definitely go back again. Rooms: 5 Service: 5 Location: 5 Hotel highlights: Luxury
Visited here on the 15th of October this year with my Partner, I regret coming here thought I was getting Luxury but in stead got a dump for what I paid, I really should of asked for my money back when I saw the Room, should of gone else where, really not happy with the state of the Room and the Spa, some of the equipment was broken, the Spa Showers were in need of repair if not replacing in the Spa the foot Spa's as well, the room is really very poor, when I booked it the room looked a luxurious room online, when I got there I got a shock the whole place needs to b refurbished, the only grace was the staff even they must feel Very Ashamed to b working there, a very poor place that needs reinvestiging in to bring it forward, me personally would never stay at one of your resorts again, due to I feel I was robbed of my money and missed lead at the time of booking really unhappy.
