It's that time of year when the daffodils are in bloom, and they must be stunning here. We decided to visit, so we left Plymouth and took the train to Calstock. From there, it was just a 1.5-mile walk to the house, which was easy to navigate and find. Upon arrival, we were greeted by the well-organized National Trust setup. The grounds are beautifully maintained, and the café offers excellent food at reasonable price... View all feedback.
What User doesn't like about The Edgcumbe:
Did not have much time and need to walk the dog so popped over to Cotehele to walk the dog. Walked along the waterfront and took a few photos. Took a few photos and enjoyed myself. There is also a circular walk for the dog. Did not visit the garden or the house, this time, as I had the dog; but have visited them in the past. Plan on visiting them again soon for the holidays. Something to look forward too. View all feedback.
We stayed at a lovely holiday home that had everything we needed. It was very cozy and incredibly quiet. Even though we experienced a lot of rain during our week-long stay, it didn't dampen our vacation spirit. The staff and volunteers from the National Trust were a delight to spend time with, and they made us feel very welcome— I can't praise them enough. There are beautiful walks right on the doorstep, including lovely routes to the pubs in Calstock and various trails to Cotehele House and its stunning gardens. There's also a potter with a workshop behind the house, which is definitely worth a visit. And we can't forget about Dusty, the local cat—he loves any tasty treats that come his way! We are definitely planning to stay here again.
The house and gardens are beautiful, but the service at the café was quite slow. There is a minibus that runs between the house, the café, and the mill. It's a lovely walk, but you need to be in good shape to enjoy it.
I enjoyed my visit to Cotehele but do feel more could be done with the buildings at this property compared to other national trust sites that I have visited. The staff were knowledgable and the great hall display was interesting. This property specialises in their garden so we will re-visit later in the year as winter is not the best time to view the garden.
Lovely National trust house. Large grounds to walk through, although when you walk down, you have to walk back up again. Luckily the tearoom does a reviving cream tea. Also a delicious pasty. There is a mill but they're not milling flour, although there was a great lady baking rock cakes and scones, which were the lightest I've ever tasted. Great day out.

We also explored the quay, although it was closed for renovations, and then made our way back to the train station. They only charged us £4, which was great; it would have been £5 otherwise! I definitely plan to return in early summer when the gardens will be in full bloom, showcasing an even more impressive display of these stunning gardens.
