I like it. most chow my dishes have no taste. this dish was well spiced and the char chiu was fresh and tender. most char chiu is dry and jerky. I can't wait to go back. View all feedback.
What Juliet Walter doesn't like about WA ME Chinese Restaurant:
Too authentic?. It's been my experience that when a restaurant, for example Chinese, is packed with Asian people, it might be a little too authentic. I personally enjoy a more Americanized version of Chinese food. That may sound lame but I know what I like and what I don't. Very rarely will not finish my food and just dump it in the garbage. That's what I did in this occasion. I just could not stomach it. View all feedback.
Authentic? Yes! And that's good!. This is a great little place. Kind of a small diner in appearance, you'll miss it if you blink. But the food is incredible! I'm a bit of a Chinese food snob, having lived in Taiwan for a couple of years so I'm always looking for food that tastes like I remember. It's very hard to find in Utah, but WA ME definitely has it! Their specialty is "Chinese Donburi" which, despite the oxymoronic name, is the closest thing to homestyle Chinese cooking I've yet eaten in Utah. All the "Donburi" means is that the entree is served on a bed of rice in a glass pie plate (or over a big bowl of soup) rather than on a platter with rice on the side. It makes for a wonderful, filling, no fuss lunch. I haven't tried any of the Americanized items they're obliged to put on their menu, but the green bean beef, tomato eggs, and twice-cooked streaky pork are all beyond excellent. And the hsiao lung bao are to die for! If you like GOOD Chinese food, eat here.
