Really! We've been in OZ for a month and we've longed to find a little taste of home! Excellent Tamales. Burrito and Tacos were great! And for our two vegans, Tostada did the trick. Flavors were amazing and Raul, the owner, was very friendly. All up our meal was $69 for five people (three of them were big guys) View all feedback.
Friday night to Mexikan. Less Western style, more traditional. Not sure the sprinkles on the cake are traditional. At first there was a fresh tortilla taco made of spiced beef pieces, onions and coriander. The meat was so delicious and delicate. Then chicken enchiladas in mol sauce, and chicken frogs. The enchiladas were most and full of taste, with the frogs being like a deep fritted version with a beautiful crunch. The meal was a flan that was dense and creamy, and tres leches cake. Amazing food that is simple and tasty. At Taco Quetzalcoatl.
Simple but delicious tacos with fresh ingredients. The pulled pig was probably the choice of the three I had. Wait for the food from the order. It's amazing that this place in the middle of Salisbury in a downhill old suburb shop front, but it fits it. Really friendly staff and the story behind it (read the NYTimes piece) is hearty.
Hidden, but a real jewel. Very accomodating friendly staff, great tasting food and excellent value. The authentic Mexican drinks are a bonus.
I lived in the Bay Area (California) for a couple years before moving to Australia, so I know good Mexican. Australia has disappointed time and time again with what passes for Mexican here. I was REALLY excited to try this place after reading the NY Times food critic review but unfortunately I was let down again. We had to ask for chips, which while I think they were homemade were cold, they should be served warm, and usually would be brought to each table without having to ask or pay. There was no salsa bar or selection of salsas offered. We had several different orders at the table and everyone felt underwhelmed by their meals. There just wasn’t the complexity or depth that we wanted in a true Mexican meal. And also, the service was quite curt and impatient. I’m not sure what’s happened here. This may be the best Mexican in Australia but it certainly still falls far below expectations.
