The Barbecue Chicken is delightful—it’s not the typical chicken smothered in a sweet red sauce. The chili dog is fantastic once you adjust for the saltiness. The hush puppies are sizable and usually quite delicious. They have homemade spaghetti available at dinner, but I’ve only been here for lunch. I’ve heard that the spaghetti is very good. Breakfast is also served, featuring livermush. I tried the livermush sandwich and found it quite good; a little onion adds flavor, though not necessarily to your breath. This restaurant is definitely worth a visit—it may not be a must-see destination, but if the opportunity arises, the barbecue is worth trying. It could use a bit of tweaking to perfect the flavor, but the smokiness and tenderness are there, and there are other menu items that are worth sampling. Keep in mind that many locals in Salisbury feel passionately about the history and quality of the barbecue served here, just as their counterparts do in Lexington. So approach this barbecue spot with an open mind, and if the experience doesn’t wow you, maintain your own perspective. Enjoy the variety—it’s all delicious, and how dull would it be if everything tasted the same?
Best barbecue in Salisbury. And some of the best in the whole state. Perfectly smoked with hickory and the sauce is eastern style (not Lexington style) and damn tasty. Plus they have the most delicious hushpuppies you'll ever eat.
This classic North Carolina barbecue restaurant serves authentic Lexington-style dishes. The sandwiches come with a flavorful 'dip' and a tangy vinegar slaw, precisely the way it should be done. Despite arriving just thirty minutes before closing on a Sunday, we received a warm welcome, with the staff assuring us, "Y’all got plenty of time." The hushpuppies were fresh and accompanied by friendly conversation. We originally visited due to its historical significance, but we’ll definitely return for the wonderful people and the perfect NC barbecue.
