We made a last-minute decision to grab some food on our way home, and this restaurant was our first choice from where we were. It was definitely worth it! The service was great, and the fish fry was outstanding. We all ordered fried fish but chose different potato sides and shared bites from each other's plates. The homemade chips and fries were the clear favorites. We also appreciated the history lesson about the bu... View all feedback.
Honestly THE BEST Baked Fish around! The breaded fish is good, too! Truly a hidden gem.
Went to the Hidaway for the first time . We had some great Old Fashions and a fish fry. Both were very good. Mike the bartender made excellent drinks. We even met the owners who were very friendly and the staff was very friendy and hard working . We will definitely go back .
Nice old Wisconsin atmosphere. Great fish fry and old fashioned.
I’m giving this place 3 stars mainly because of Betsy and Mike. The owners are genuinely nice, but the waitress, Marty, is a real disappointment. She’s rude, often ignores customers, and always seems irritated. When we tried to engage her in a little small talk, she made it clear that she didn’t want to be bothered. After taking our name for the order, she disappeared to attend to other tables, leaving us waiting. It took about 20 minutes before we finally caught her attention, but as we were speaking to her, she turned away to assist someone else! This isn’t just a one-time issue; it’s been like this every time we’ve visited. Fortunately, Mike eventually took our order and served us for the remainder of our meal, but overall, we probably won’t return. It’s unfortunate because Betsy is fantastic — she greets everyone who walks in, remembers names, drink preferences, and our usual orders, even during busy times.
This was our first time dining at this restaurant while camping nearby, and we weren’t sure what to expect. Upon entering, we were seated in a charming back room, surrounded by a cozy and well-decorated atmosphere. Our group started with the mushroom appetizer, which was excellent. For our main courses, we ordered the baked cod with potato pancakes and the broccoli crunch salad. I really appreciated the option to add an extra side to our meals. The potato pancakes were the best I've ever had—crispy and far from the soggy texture that typically bothers me. The Hideaway truly serves the crispiest potato pancakes around! The breaded cod was also delicious. If you’re looking for drinks, I highly recommend the old fashioned—it was perfection. Overall, I can’t say enough good things about The Hideaway; we are eager to return soon! Thank you for the wonderful food and service.
