Domaine de Valaudran - Salbris

The location is nice, and as the weather was good we were able to have dinner outside, with a view in the back garden.The service was good, professional, maybe a bit too fast at serving dishes. I would have enjoyed taking 5 or more minutes between the plates.The menu offers a good selection of meats, seafood and of course cheese. We are in of the Fench region reknown for the goats cheese.The quality of the food served was ok but to me, lacking a bit of character. Nothing bad of course, but nothing outstanding either.Nice selection of local wines, Sancerre, Pouilly and Chinon.

The hotel looks nice but the rooms and service are in line with the relatively low cost of the rooms. The restaurant is average. Food tasted ok but definitely misses something. The whole combination is nice as a vacation stopover. Not bad but not good either. OK to do but don't expect to much

En route to England from the Lot to begin a family holiday we decided to have a stopover half way. Domaine de Valaudran is in Salbris near Vierzon and just a couple of minutes from the motorway. The entrance has all the promise of a luxury stay with sweeping grounds on both sides of the drive and the Manor House/chateau can be seen immediately you turn into the grounds. There is plenty of parking and the park itself offers a number of walks should you need to stretch your legs.The receptionist was very professional and booking in took no time at all. Everything was ready for us even though we had arrived half an hour early. The room was pleasant and looked out over the park and the heating was perfect. The piece de resistance however was the restaurant. The room extends into a conservatory and is open and bright. The tables are not set too closely together and the staff are very professional and knowledgeable. The food was excellent, not cheap but not over too expensive given the environment, and their wine list was reasonable. After enjoying such a good evening meal we were a little disappointed with the breakfast which although it was adequate it did not live up to our expectations.Booking out once again was fast and competent and all in all a very pleasant stay in a perfect environment, perfect location if you are using the autoroute, and professional and polite staff. Thank you for a lovely stay. We would love to stay here again.

Excellent meal, good Champagne. We struggled a bit with the complicated French menu but the outcome was superb and not expensive compared to UK.
