great welcome and on the contrary other opinion: inexpensive. We ate a platter for two with cold meats and cheese (15 euros), bread with olive oil, raw ham coppa, sausage... The waiter is adorable. We had a blast. THANKS View all feedback.
What Rosario Sotelo doesn't like about Cafe des Arenes:
This restaurant? it's just a dirty, smelly place. everything was bad. Service, food and atmosphere. A friend warned me but I wanted to see for myself. He was right. Moreover, it seems that it is a cemetery. It is dark and say the toilet? Smell, no toilet paper on the floor there was full of excrement. Bad bad bad! and an evil boss and server.Of friends, avoid this place. This is the worst place to St Remy. Although t... View all feedback.
We really enjoyed our meal here, so much so that we returned within a week. The restaurant has a lovely outdoor spacious terrace and plays nice background music. Our meals on both occasions were freshly cooked, well flavoured and delicious. We recommend the chicken brochettes served with a very tasty ratatouille and sautéed potatoes on a sizzling platter with a creamy curry sauce on the side. The creme brûlée was as good as I have had anywhere. This restaurant is on the quieter side of town so does not get as much passing trade but it is worth a visit if you are looking for a relaxing evening with a good value, home cooked meal. The owner is welcoming and helpful. No doubt we will return again.
The food was excellent for the price. The service was very good and friendly. Loved the terrasse. There is a live band on weekends which makes the atmosphere a lot of fun. There was nothing I didn't like there. Xavier, the owner, was very friendly and spoke English. Great cocktails too. An amazing experience! Nothing to do with the previous owner.
I am really surprised at these other reviews as we enjoyed a good lunch here. Amazing sangria on a hot day, warm and accomodating service, big fresh salads, and a nice plate of pasta. No complaints and a great outdoor seating area. Would go back for sure. Nice family run business atmosphere.
Home cooking that warmed the heart ,great duck and deserts . Service efficient for our group of 10 . Locals eat here as well
First night in St Remy and looking for somewhere to eat off season. Came across Cafe des Arenes and loved it.Xavier, the owner, was sooooo friendly, helpful and chatty. (Although French, he once owned an Indian Restaurant in San Francisco!!)There was an Indian hint to some of their dishes, so I went for brochettes of chicken, Indian style and my wife more traditional French. Both meals were of a very high standard and excellent value. His suggested wines were perfect, and he and his staff were charming, and funny.Recommended.
