Le Relais de Sennecterre

Yesterday we had lunch at the Sennecterre restaurant. When we arrived, no one of the employees looked at our site to give us a menu. We waved to the waitress several times, but she was obviously blind. The first waitress that comes to our table did not want to serve us because the staff always serves the same tables. Okay, that's understandable while corona restrictions are still in force, but why do they put complete strangers on the same table to eat? And why didn't one of the waitresses wear a mouth cap? After almost half an hour we finally got our menu. It took another 30 minutes to take our orders after another Waving session towards the same waitress. It seems that this restaurant works half an hour shift for every handling. 30 minutes later we got our lunch. 2 small plates of food, the size looks more like a starter. Luckily, 2 baskets of stables, half roasted bread could take away our hunger. The saltless coq au vin of my partner with lenses could not even give a heart attack to a heart patient. After lunch, a half hour before the reception was fenced away, after being asked for several waitresses. One of the waitresses, who looked very well around herself and practically runs the restaurant itself, was visibly frustrated by their stupid, rude and slow colleagues. Finally, we paid inside for not listening to this chaotic restaurant for another 30 minutes. After an explanation of the bartender, during the payment, why it takes so long until a wireless payment is made by card in France, we finally escaped this chaotic place. A real frustrating experience. What a waste of time!.... Of course we will never return.

I owe Max the guy who took my payment to Le Relais de Sennecterre, a postcard. Let me explain. Our French family members brought us Canadian tourists to Saint Nectaire for a day trip from Clermont Ferrand. Let me immediately emphasize that if you... plan to make such a trip, to relax for a beautiful landscape on the way there and back! It was last October and I think, shortly after the height of the tourist season, when we arrived high on a hill, near a century old church, and at a table of Le Relais de Sennecterre. We thought there was a light lunch and a drink of beer. The sun shone and the temperature comfortable, so we sat on the terrace that this restaurant introduces. Our server was friendly and had no problems understanding our English and my not so great French. I always try to speak French when in France. We were a foursome and we shared meat and cheese plates and washed the food with beer glasses. The location was magnificent and this restaurant seemed popular to judge by the number of other moats there. The food was good, the beer from thirst and the prices appropriate. If we ever come back to Saint Nectaire, we'd eat here again. I went to the restaurant where they have more dining tables, a small gift/souvenir shop and up their toilet facilities is immaculate. I paid a guy named Max for our food and drink and bought a card deck as a souvenir. I promised to send him a postcard from Canada. Watch your Max mailbox!

During a visit to Saint Nectaire to look at the wonderful Romanesque church, and on a day where bright sun and Torrential made life and particularly difficult to drive, I found myself in Saint Nectaire, and it was lunchtime. The village is well served with hotels and restaurants, as it is high in Massif Central. After an hour with the architecture I needed lunch and since the Relais de Sennecterre was handy, I tried. I wasn't disappointed. It feels like it has been there forever, but is guided by enthusiastic and youthful employees. The food was very good and infused with the true spirit of Auvergne. The main course with potato ham and a lot of melted cheese was the first class and hardly any room for a French take on Apple Crumble and Custard, who was right to strengthen me for the afternoon. The kitchen is not highly demanding, but is good and honest and gives you good satisfaction. It's worth a stop when you're in the area.

I 've been coming to this area most years for a decade now. I always spend at least a few beers in this place. The lower part of St Nectar might be busier but for a relaxing beer sat by the church this place cannot be...bettered. It 's always been very friendly. It 's under new ownership since my previous visit and I say that the friendly nature has improved. The food is very nice too. Typical Auvergne food, but done better than the sometimes mediocre tourist food you sometimes have. Don 't plan on eating much after having their Salers and Trufade together though! Seriously yummy!

The village is well served with hotels and restaurants perched as it is high in the Massif Central. After an hour with the architecture I needed lunch and since the Relais de Sennecterre was on hand I tried it.I was not disappointed. It feels as if it has been there for ever but is run by enthusiastic and youthful staff. The food was very good and infused with the true spirit of the Auvergne. The main course with potatoes ham and lots of melted cheese was first class and barely left room for a French take on Apple Crumble and custard, which was just right to fortify me for the afternoon.The cooking is not highly sophisticated but is good and honest and leaves you well satisfied. The is worth a stop if you are in the area.
