Cafe Bistro du Village

One of the more unusual places we have during the tour of Quebec.... Well worth a visit, good atmosphere and a really funny feeling for the place! We had only one dessert and an ice cream coffee, but the place was busy and the food served elsewhere also great!

During our visit to Mauricie National Park, our host recommended this delightful bistro with a great atmosphere and delicious food.

I dined at Cafe Bistro du Village for dinner on two consecutive days and thoroughly enjoyed it. The food was excellent and the service was friendly and efficient. The ambiance is a bit quirky, but don't let that deter you. I would definitely recommend it.

My friends and I visited this restaurant on a Sunday night. It was quite busy, so our main courses took a bit longer to arrive. I ordered a Caesar salad and a cheesecake, both of which were delicious. The wait staff were extremely friendly and attentive. The interior of the restaurant is beautifully decorated, creating a cozy and inviting atmosphere.

Review of café Bistro du Village, at 1901 Ch. Principal, St Mathieu du Parc (B B Gîte Chambre Chalet Moto of this business is “ J’aime la vie” or “I love life”. Also, “recette de bonheur” or “recipe of good time” 1 bag of smile,2 cups of sharing,2 lbs of positivity,41/2 cup of humour,2 spoons of simplicity,1 drop of let it be,1 packet of love of life. We rented one chalet near Lac Gareau from this enterprise. We contacted through “loisir Quebec” on the way to Shawinigan. From web site, we knew that if we rent we would have discount in the bistro. The chalet was 10 minutes drive from the bistro situated on the main st. of Shawinigan. It was clean, parking place was spacious, outside garden view of the lake was beautiful. However, toilet/shower on the main floor was common, as well as other things like, freezer, oven, sitting dining areas. Bed room had no door, so privacy was missing.. There was another client in the basement and the client had free access upstair as there was no separating lockable door. So, when we went out we had to take our valuables such as iPad, cellular, charger etc. with us. We were lucky that early in the morning, the client in the basement did not come up to use the common kitchen toilet! When we left chalet in the morning, we noticed that the basement entry/exit door was not locked. So, security in the chalet is to be questioned. Also, there was no information inside the chalet for urgent contact with the owner if required at night. It is to be noted that the Bistro is closed after 10 P.M. Bistro is fast food type with beer alcoholic beverage. Our reservation was for 8 P.M. We had to wait almost 1 hr had to bear mosquito attacks. When we entered with one of the server, who was 2 feet before us, ordered us to close the “bistro” door in not a very pleasant manner. We ordered mojito. Mint leaves were fresh, but not much of Rum. We ordered salad chicken wings. Salad was good, but chicken wings were burnt. Almost 30 of wings were completely burnt, and others were 30 burnt. When we complained, the answer was it was B.B.Q. No “sorry” word was used. There were 3 plates of desserts on the counter. One plate was uncovered all the time servers were using bare hands to cut dessert for clients.Discounted (as per web page advertisement price of meals and drinks was not offered. Next morning, when we paid the rent no receipt was given. All transactions in this place are either in cash or debit card. Our experience of this place is that It’s moto is not applicable for clients who complain.
