Lou Regalou - Saint-Martial

I'm almost reluctant to write a glowing review of this lovely seemingly simple country restaurant because I don't want it to change! Other reviewers have referred to Lou Regalou as unpretentious and having spent the last 15 years of my working life travelling throughout France, visiting restaurants in virtually every one of the 95 départements, I have never been as surprised by the superb quality and sophistication as I was by the food served by the young husband-and wife' owners in this very remote village. The food was wonderful, the service friendly and welcoming. We had the 28 euro menu, which represented outstanding value. Check before you set off for St. Martial though, as Lou Regalou isn't open every night of the week. I took it as significant that a party of 21 employees of the Mairie of a town some 16 tortuous kilometres away took the trouble to drive there when their own town has plenty of restaurants. They like us were very well rewarded for their trouble! Thoroughly recommended.

About forty of us had booked here for lunch! A small unpretentious restaurant in beautiful village in a marvelous setting. Small sunlit terrace. We were greeted warmly and we all managed to fit into the small dining room. Impeccable, efficient, friendly service. Even more importantly, that food was absolutely delicious. We had a set meal of course, a feuillete a la chataigne, a ragout of joues de boeuf, and a tatin de pommes on a crispy biscuit. Aperitifs and wines included. All of us were absolutely delighted with the quality and the presentation of the food. This is one of the best meals we have ever had in the South of France. If you enjoy the Cevennes countryside, and you enjoy eating well for very very reasonable price, this has got to be on your list. The Restaurant is run by a young couple, and they are both charming and so a very good job indeed. There are rooms available but I've no idea what they are like. Highly recommended

Everytime we have visited there are different and interesting menu choices we have never been disappointed. All the dishes are always beautifully presented and the service is excellent. Lovely surroundings in the centre of a small mountain village in the Cevennes. In the summers they also have a selection of patisserie to buy from the Sunday market delicious! Can't wait to return.
