Good but overpriced. I thought the food was good standard southern 'soul ' food but a bit overpriced. Same meals at most soul food restaurants would cost a 1/3 less but still a treat. View all feedback.
What Mark J doesn't like about Sweetie Pie Upper Crust:
Had to try this place after seeing it on tv a few years ago. The interior was nice and clean. The food was good. Kind of typical food you'd get from any soul food restaurant, but good. The meatloaf was ok. The fried chicken was good. I really liked the dressing View all feedback.
I was not a fan of the food. A little better than cafeteria food, but not much. Dark restaurant too. Also, I was not a fan of the area. I saw this place on a tv show. The tv show raised my expectations too high. Overall, I was underwhelmed.
Amazing! Best fried chicken that didn't come out of my grandma's skillet. The sides are tasty and generous. Now that I've been here, I'll go out of my way to eat here when I'm in town.
It's been a month now and I'm still daydreaming about the fried chicken. Coming from hawaii we don't have much option for southern food. So I made my way to St. Louis to visit a friend and I had only one request.. To eat at Sweetie Pies. We went on a Sunday afternoon, so of course there was a line and we waited, i want to say for maybe over a hour... The food served here is cafeteria style. I wanted everything but of course I eat like a bird... i got the fried chicken, collard greens, yams, and corn bread. Let me tell you about this fried chicken, I loved that it is not oily. You know how some fried chicken is just setting in oil and it's just gross. Not here, I could probably eat the chicken all day! We ended our meal with the peach cobbler. And omg, I'm still drooling. Overall, there's going to be a wait. But it's worth the wait

Everyone loves a little southern cooking. My family, friends, and I search out the best place to go when we travel. While in St. Louis for a convention someone suggested Sweetie Pies. I went there in 2019 and it was great. I bragged about the food all the way there. Everyone had high expectations and their taste buds were ready for some good food. However, things had truly changed. If there was sand around I would have turned into an ostrich and buried my head. The place looked run down, the food was awful, cold, not tasty, and the staff was mean. I am sure Ms. Montgomery would not be pleased, or perhaps she has stopped caring. I plan to revisit in 2023 when I return to St. Louis for a Convention, Just to see if she cares, I hope she does.
