Food is perfect. The menu is set, I couldn't find it online before we left so it was a surprise. You took a vege option for us that was good. The price is high. $60/plate. The ambience is under equality. A combination of music, people at the bar, loud talking in the kitchen was not ideal. Overall, delicious and high-end experience. View all feedback.
What DanM doesn't like about J. Devoti Trattoria (formerly Five Bistro):
Review takes into context the above average cost of a dinner for two. Good food, good environment. The menu is too rigid. Understand the focus on seasonal but it's still too rigid. Service was variable. Server was inexperienced but host and support personnel were fantastic. View all feedback.
I usually do not take time to publish an assessment unless I have a great experience or not so much experience. The positives: Beautiful restaurant and a beautiful atmosphere. Our table of five enjoyed the bread and herbal butters and the pimples and olive groves. Our server was friendly throughout the service. Cons: Our two pasta dishes were very bland, small portions and certainly not worth the price. Two of the three available pastas showed mushrooms and the other was vegetarian. I would suggest adding another option without mushrooms and with a protein. The Caesar salad was quite a large part, but the Caesar anchovy bite was missing. The dressing was quite boring and tasteless and I think the dressing sat on the salad a little too long before it served as the salad was kind of soggy. The Margherita pizza was simply bad the crust was very burned and the cheese and sauce lacked spices and taste of any kind. I would have tried my husband and he would usually be happy with any pizza and he said that it could have been the worst, most tasteless pizza he had ever had. We had leftovers and didn't even bring it home. It took forever to get our main courses; I would guess it took an hour or more between the appetizers and main course, so it only wait a very long for a very disappointing meal. I think this restaurant has real potential, but they need to work to taste the fresh ingredients well and give people a reason to come back. I don't think they did this tonight.
Truly sad that this was our last time dining at J.Devoti. This was another amazing experience and Devin took amazing care of us. We will miss him! The delectable flavors that chef Devoti was able to create was truly exceptional. Pair that with an amazing front of house staff and you create more than just a meal, you create memories. Thank you J.Devoti for the memories!
Great Hill Neighborhood spot. Service and food were good.
Celebrating 60 bday and it was above expectations . Every course and wine pairing was perfect. Absolutely delish and like no other. Not rushed thru meal, small and intimate without being aloof.
Amazing service. The food was delicious. Love that most everything is created in house and/or sourced locally. The only place where I find eating mushrooms an enjoyable experience.
