This place is flat-out superb. Despite being extremely busy, the waiters were very patient and helpful, the dishes were as good as I've had anywhere in the past three years, and the pricing was ridiculously low for the quality of what we received. Across the board, every dish was well-conceived and very well executed: the skill in the kitchen was very evident, with creativity that was appropriate for the very high qu... View all feedback.
What Marine Benard doesn't like about La Grange:
Imagine this. You see people eating good looking food. Then you see few empty tables. Great. Not here. After few minutes the waiter refuses to give the menu and tells you that the restaurant is closed. Too many guests, kitchen too busy. CLOSED. 2PM. I could understand this 10PM or later but not the middle of the day. It was my last try here. Be warned unless you like lazy and unpleasant waiters. View all feedback.
A year ago, when my husband and I were in Saint Lary, we stumbled upon La Grange, a restaurant that the local hotel had suggested.
Fantastic food and drinks Patio dining was casual Same menu as the more intimate charming dining room The service couldn't be better We will return if we
Good food and service, the environment and overall experience is very family like and warming. The inside look is similar to a cabin, which adds comfort to your meal. The service was excellent and the waiters were very friendly. My family enjoyed the experienced of eating a meal in this French restaurant.
Delicious meal in a delightful setting. Contemporary and creative cuisine and good local produce. Service was excellent, despite only one waiter on duty. Definitely recommend this restaurant, along with its charming sister hotel the D’Angleterre in Arreau, just up the road
We first came to this region of the high Pyrenees, and this restaurant, six years ago. La Grange was recommended to us by a local couple in the nearby small town of Arreau; we went, and liked it so much we at once reserved for a second dinner later in the week. We've just returned to this lovely area for another holiday, and remembered the restaurant with such affection that we booked a table for our first night... at the end of which, again impressed, we asked for a table later in the week for our last night in the area.We have the impression there's not a great deal of superior dining around, and La Grange is a welcome exception. It's unpretentious and relaxed - the almost exclusively French customers dress and behave casually (but not, mercifully, loudly), and the service is warm and friendly - but the food and the experience are very pleasing. The menu is fairly small in terms of choice - best to go for one of the three-course menus (26 or 36 euros) - but the ingredients are good, nicely put together, and well cooked. (I recommend the three tapas for starter and lthrbamb for the main; though the sweets are clearly tempting, on both occasions this year I ended with the excellent local cheese, and didn't regret it either time.) Wine: for red try the basic Madiran or the Irouleguy; for white definitely try the dry Pacherenc du Vic Bilge, a really interesting and rewarding local speciality that's sadly pretty hard to find elsewhere.Downside? Maybe the menu could be more extensive, especially if you plan to visit more than once during your holiday. Otherwise, hard to fault; it's a good place. Not an outright gem, but very satisfying - and quite probably the best option around for some miles or kilometres. Definitely worth a try. But it's usually (deservedly) very busy - so do call to book!
