Le Cheval Blanc Hotel Restaurant

I had decided to take the old road for the first half of the day but by lunch time I was really tired, saw a sign Le Cheval Blanc 1 KM , and pulled in. Looked very French and pretty dead from the outside but I was needy. Was greeted inside by the most charming lady who in French and mime explained the set-up, and went to the kitchen to show me the dish of the day. The place was spotlessly clean, you could see through to the kitchen, Le Patron was behind the bar as freshly scrubbed and pink as the rest of the place, typical checked table cloths. Nice buffet as a help yourself for starters, good house wine, very kindly service. I could not have asked for more and left revived. I 'm generally either heading too or from Spain and everywhere in France these days seems to be a chain place of doubtful quality and less value. Le Cheval Blanc is not worth a special trip but should you be traveling the old road from Bourges to Vichy make it your refreshment stop.
