My wife works in St Jean (so we are there pretty frequently and all year round) and I am Italian (so generally used to good cooking, not necessarily Italian). Capt Cook is one of our surefire address, a place where we go when we want a good meal, in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere; or a place to bring friends and relatives visiting without fear of overspending (prices are perfectly reasonable, even for the occasion... Everything is made home and in very beautiful way. I'll give you their octopus salad in the lobby. a real treat with fresh octopus that melts in the mouth! Buffalo for big eaters, you can even ask for more soup for gourmets. We were 4 and we were all conquered by this wonderful culinary moment. the strawberry soup fell on the ground and the bunny burrow house will open your appetite.
We had reservations on the street terrace which, according to the hostess, was preferred by clients. We declined the apéro, which was definitely a mistake because then no one came to our table for 15 minutes. When we finally were able to order we asked for a carafe d'eau and the hostess said, "No". After a stunned minute we asked for a grande Badoit and when we asked for the carafe again, this time she said yes. There seemed an eternity between courses, it took about an hour before our appetizers arrived. The food was good; I'm a vegetarian and they made me a salad and a plate with three small amounts of vegetables. And the strawberry soup was tasty for dessert. (But beware! 10€!) And then they charged me more than my companions who were having the 32€ menu. The whole dinner took over 3 hours just to get our food. And we saw other tables being offered the digestif but it was never brought to our table. We were polite and patient but the whole experience was rather unpleasant and we would never return.
One of the last traditional restaurants of St jean with a somewhat secret terrace at the bottom of the restaurant. good value for money for the place. good fish especially in the fetish dish: bisquebouille.
Visited this restaurant with friends on our last evening. I'm afraid I can't remember the names of the dishes but we chose the 32Euro per person menu which had a fair selection for all courses, drinks extra of course. I had salmon ravioli starter which was very nice, Sea Bream main course cooked to perfection and creme caramel sweet. There was an additional cheese course and mango/orange liquer thrown in which was a nice touch.
I had lunch in this establishment after a morning at the nearby beach of paloma. being located 10 minutes from the beach and 5 minutes from the parking lot, it enjoys an excellent location. their specialty is fish, I strongly advise the meat, the net that has arrived has arrived too cooked and a ridiculous size given the high price. for fish, on the other hand, the restaurant offers 2 formulas to 28 € and 32 €, both very good and able to shave without problems. a lot of attention from the servers to change the covers at the end of each dish and clean the table of the crumbs. In general, they have always been available and able to speak English. the really negative note of this place is the impossibility of taking the water of the tap (or the water of the tap for the most convenient of the displacement), requiring the customer to take expensive water bottles (6€ per bottle)
