I'm originally from Southern California, where they have authentic Mexican restaurants. I've lived in the greater Portland metro area for 4 years and it took a long time to find a really good Mexican restaurant until I found this one. I know there are many others, but they all taste different, and this one has been the best I've had hands down. The customer service is top notch, the portions are great, and the atmosp... Is the restaurant now open? I find it funny because I was just there and it was closed tight as a drum. When do they plan to honor the 24 hours they advertised on their sign? I'm getting tired of the inconsistent hours, service, and food quality. My wife and I were loyal customers for years, going there every morning for burritos and twice on weekends. Honestly, the food was good (tacos a burrito, great salsa, good chips). The service was good. But why when you're eating in (and tell the staff there that up front) does the restaurant serve in polystrene containers? So much waste.
Time for an update! After a very positive visit to the Hillsboro location, I looked at recent reviews on the St. Helens location. I saw a manager who cares and decided to try them again. Well, greatly improved experience, so much so that I'm about to get up and go buy some food for a late lunch. I can now recommend the St. Helens location with a new crew and boss, it is becoming a favorite. It's been a few years, but now there's Yelp for me to review and warn. It's a place packed with negative attitude and I suspect a strong tinge of reverse racism. My first visit, the to go food was mediocre. I can forgive that. My second, and last visit soiled my experience with flat disgusting items. The beef was like it was dried out, scraped around on the floor and wrapped up for whitey to go. I took it, but my experience leaves me nauseous at the thought of ever eating here again, so never will. My advice, skip it for Taco Bell, or Tapatios just down the street. It's just not worth the risk of being hurt by some ignorant goons.
The food is pretty good, but I am disappointed they no longer have the daily special. I also dislike how combos do not come with a drink. Other than that, they're pretty decent. Had the enchiladas plate today and enjoyed it.
