This is our go to restaurant in Saint Gervais and it has just undergone a massive refurbishment that is amazing. The food is always superb and the owners are always warm and friendly. If you are looking for somewhere to eat when in Saint Gervais you will not go wrong here. View all feedback.
What ArtaKrista doesn't like about Le Royal:
If you want great service and lovely food then don’t come here. The waiter was half taking our order and half talking to the table behind us, we had to ask twice for ice and twice for salt, to the point that another customer kindly gave us their salt. We chose (raw) meats to cook ourselves on a grill. They didn’t supply any spare cutlery or utensils to handle raw meat. They didn’t have any vegetables or dauphinois po... View all feedback.
We visited on a busy Saturday night in high summer with a great buzz sitting outside. Service was apologetic but overwhelmed, which meant a long wait first for menus and then to order understaffed for the volume of custom. Food came reasonably promptly but drinks arrived much later in the meal, after further reminders. We were eventually offered desserts but it was just too late. No check ins during the meal. Food was inconsistent. Salmon tartar was good but the curry was average, tasted defrosted reheated and was served with ratatouille, which was an odd choice. Paying the bill I was first ignored then totally 'unloved ' by what looked like the owners behind the bar. Slow service sometimes happens but the bar experience gave me indigestion.
Used to be a great little place, but now truly awful. Service inattentive and cold, the owner’s son downright aggressive, and food absolutely awful. Mauritian curry supposedly the house special was a watery, tasteless mess with vegetables the consistency of mush. It appeared to be microwaved from frozen, with very little care taken about the finished product. Salads were equally awful, with little dressing. Ice cream desserts, at 8€ a pop, turned up a half melted mess 20 minutes after ordering. All of this despite the restaurant being fairly empty. We keep coming back here out of sentimentality having visited for years, but they’ve had their last cent out of us give they can’t now even be bothered to provide decent service to long term loyal patrons. Too many good restaurants in Saint Gervais to put up with one of the worst dining experiences you’ll find outside of a UK motorway service station.
A bustling bistro in the heart of the town. We enjoyed a delicious meal, mussels were a particular highlight and my youngest thoroughly enjoyed his burger. Good value. Service was fiendly and efficient, even though the place was very busy. Will happily return.
We visit Saint Gervais several times a year and the Royal is always our first choice. Great food at a great price with excellent service. What is not to like.
