We got unlucky as we arrived at peak lunchtime and wanting a light bite joined the queue for the outside snack bar. And waited. And waited. And waited. We got unlucky as we arrived at peak lunchtime and wanting a light bite joined the queue for the outside snack bar. And waited. And waited. And waited. Yes, there were waiters taking drinks orders whilst in the queue but it took an age to order our food and by the time I got to the front of the queue they'd run out of quiche so after a thirty minute wait the offering was a croque monsieur for my husband and as I don't eat cheese, chips and a green salad for me! Definitely not worth the effort of queuing but stunning views.
We loved the deck chairs! However eight euros for a very very average cappocinno and six for press- button café allongeé might make one think about stopping elsewhere. Do places that are near to Courchevel 1850 do this on purpose to discourage normal people? If so, it works! It discourages sensible people too! But as I have said , the deck chair was excellent. (Available at Carrefour - 39.99 euros if you want to take your own)
The views here really are great.
The views are to die for, but we ended up walking out of the restaurant having waited far too long to get served. Instead, we ended up eating at the snack bar outside which served a great tartiflette. One final point to note were the loos which seem to be a bit of an afterthought - tiny and quite exposed.
A group of friends and I had lunch in the restaurant, and the food was very nice. However, the attitude from one of the waiters was terrible. He was pleasant throughout the meal, but then towards the end repeatedly asked how much we were going to tip him. In the end we felt so annoyed that he kept hassling us about the tip that we decided we weren’t going to tip him at all. When I told him of our intention not to tip, he got very aggressive and stood blocking my way as I was leaving and started shouting at me. He also said that next time we came he wouldn’t find us a table (we won't be going back after this experience so not such a problem!)This experience was obviously quite unsettling, and in our effort to leave I left my rucksack behind. To their credit, when a friend went back to retrieve the rucksack the manager was very friendly, so clearly some of the staff are helpful. All in all though, a bad experience despite the amazing setting.
