What Reagan S doesn't like about Whistle Stop:
Not open. The doors say see you next season so it looks like they haven 't been open for at least a year. We 've waited since last fall to try this place. Hours on the website and Google are inaccurate. View all feedback.
I know the name is not exactly original. However, regardless of that lapse in judgment, this place is super cute. The ice cream isn 't the best in St. Louis but what it lacks from Ted Drew 's it makes up for in ambiance. The ice cream shop is actually an old train station, and you can sit and watch the trains go by while you hang out and eat your ice cream. They have sandwiches and salads (I think) too, but the ice cream shop is the main draw. The concretes are pretty good but the shakes are my favorite. You will feel very Pleasantville hanging out in this establishment with your shake/float watching the trains pass...I 'm telling you, this place is all ambiance. There 's also a little museum inside about a history of Ferguson I believe (don 't hold me to that, I have not looked at this stuff once, but I know it 's there). In short, stop by if you are in Ferguson...no other place like it.
Great place for sandwiches and frozen custard. Housed in the Ferguson Depot Museum learn all about this history of this interesting community. Great county bike trail nearby connects back to UMSL and Metrolink.summer concert series oudoors and kids' birthday parties are also fun here.

Absolutely love this place!!!!! I am so sad that they are closing October 15th. They have the best ice cream with so many unique offerings. My favorite is the Cow Catcher with chocolate ice cream. I have eaten here only a handful of times and that was years ago. But I remember the food being good I would say go there for lunch over dinner since the fare is lighter. The service is friendly and fast. They remember each customer and bring your food out to you. They even offered to keep my to go ice cream in the freezer until I was ready to leave. I really hope someone steps in and buys this place before the lease is up at the end of the year.
Restaurant was clean. Neat concept. About a dozen tables inside. Walk to the ticket counter to place your order. They were friendly. They give you a ticket with a number, the boarding pass/train ticket. They say now boarding ticket xyz when your order is ready. Neat for kids. Got the cable car sandwich for just less than 7. The sandwich was fair. Lots of bread. Not much meat. Only half slice of tomato I each half of sandwich. Needed more veggies. It was served hot so that was nice. I didn't get the ice cream so perhaps that was the failure there. However, I was looking forward to a nice sandwich for lunch. Would I eat it again? Yes. Was it worth the ? No. I heard the desserts were just ok, not the best. Though the dessert menu looked really good. Will I return? Perhaps. But not at the top of my list.
