Restaurante Snack Bar O Escondidinho

We have been there twice. The first time was by accident when our intended restaurant was closed. The second time we intentionally drove 2.5 hours to experience more of the great good and friendly service. Make the trip. You won’t be disappointed. This is a true Portuguese restaurant frequented by locals so don’t expect white table cloths and candles. Just go hungry, and the staff will take care of you.

Rustic restaurant. Cool atmosphere. Great patio. Bad service. Arrived about 12:30, just before the lunch rush. Wasn't busy when we arrived. Waiter looked disinterested so we sat ourselves at a table on the patio. Everything and every time we needed the waiter, from ordering drinks, to ordering lunch, to getting the bill was a painfully slow and rude experience. We ordered the steak and the chicken. The food was good, The steak was nicely done and juicy. The chicken was nicely grilled. The fries were very good. While we were there it got busier and about 1:30 there was a line out the door. The locals and the tourists were eating here. There are some large communal tables outside and the tourists and the locals were sitting together. Nice atmosphere. I understand that the waiter was busy. He was handling the entire patio on his own. We are usually very accomodating and don't criticize waitstaff for being busy. This waiter however was rude and service was horribly slower than it had to be. Even when I asked for the bill, it took another 30 minutes to check out, and the only reason it wasn't longer was that I cornered the waiter inside the restaurant and gave him my credit card. Overall, enjoyed the local feel of the restaurant. There was no excuse for the rude waiter.

Located off the beaten track but we had to wait for a table. Their specialty is one pot rice based dish with sauce and add ons of your choice we ordered one called arroz marisco (seafood rice), which can be easily shared by 3 people (on the menu it's a dish for 2 people). Lots of crab meat, prawns, clams. Price was 32 euros, minimum half an hour of waiting. They also have cataplans (similar prices), but they said it was an hour of waiting then it's probably worth making an appointment for a specific time, going to the city or Cape Cabo Sao Vicente and returning to the restaurant for a ready dish. Good place for fish and seafood.

Recommended buy the the staff of our hostel, we went to this place looking for cataplana. We ordered seafood one and was WOOOW- delicous, but not to forget to mention- huge. It was said that its for 2 people. Lying :D Easily for 4 people. So before ordering, make sure you are both super hungry and dont order any snacks. Staff very nice and friendly. Thank you!

First time we came there it took about an hour for some grilled tuna and octopus to arrive. Second time much faster. Huge serves. Amazing taste. Amazing dessert. Amazing prices. Amazing service. Everything amazing here. Love it.
