Contribute Feedback What Tara Bertelloni likes about The Gumbo Pot:
Ordered here twice now and this will be one of my new go to's! Gumbo is delicious with lots of meat and okra, and comes with the rice on the side. Breading on the chicken and catfish is light and perfect. They packed the lettuce and tomato on the side so the roll didn't get soggy. The mac and cheese is smooth and creamy (although has a unique flavor but I think that might be the type of cheese used) and the succotash... View all feedback.
What Tracy T doesn't like about The Gumbo Pot:
It was in an industrial area. Hard to find no sign the say "Gumbo pot "So, When we arrived there it was a food pickup spot.. not a restaurant. They should be more specific in there description. View all feedback.
Gone dowm twice. Drove 40 min to find it closed when website said open. Zero integrity and reliability as a business. .. and i was craving etoufee?
I wasn't sure about ordering from a take out kitchen like this, but I'm glad I did. The food is fantastic. As a note: to order take out you need to go to the website to choose what you want and pay, then when you arrive at the place you call the number on the sign out front. They'll bring out your food.I had red beans and rice, a hot link, mac and cheese, and corn bread. All of it was full of flavor.I try to go to New Orleans about once a year. I've had mixed experiences with Creole food in San Diego. I'm not an expert of course, but this seemed legit. The mac and cheese was especially delicious.
First, let me say that I am I huge fan of gumbo. Second, although there may be some very good places to get them in SD, I had not really found one yet. Third, I got doordash delivery as my first experience with this restaurant. Ok, so I ordered Grandma's Gumbo, and paid the extra $5 for the crab. When it arrived, it was still pretty hot. It also came with a side of rice (a must-in my opinion, but some places omit it or charge extra). On sight, the roux was very dark. The quantity of the crab for $5 surprised me--it was basically a few legs and part of a body (they did not just toss in some canned crab meat and call it a day for an extra $5). Because I am OCD and I like to fully enjoy EACH AND EVERY BITE of my gumbo with all the good stuff in it, I first took the time to shell all of the crab and add it to the dish. In stirring it in, I also noticed not just the usual ingredients (chicken, sausage and fish) but, also, shrimp and scallops. The overall portion of gumbo was a bit smaller than I would have wanted for the price, but most things are these days. Now onto the taste--it was delicious! There was a lot of flavor but not too much spice, great seafood, plenty of okra, and a rich hearty stew. I can say that I will definitely order this dish again!
The food was authentic and delicious! It's definitely a take-out kind of place. There are a couple of tables inside and outside if you don't have a place to go and eat your meals.
