Down Home - Rutledge
Down Home
Description
Nestled in Rutledge, this charming country restaurant serves generous, down‑home portions—standouts include crispy Cajun catfish, savory meatloaf and homestyle gravy—with excellent desserts and breakfast options. Decor is distinctive and welcoming, making it a worthwhile trip for families and road‑trippers seeking value. Service and execution can be inconsistent: expect friendly staff but occasional slow or inattentive service and uneven dish temperatures. Overall, a cozy, casual spot for hearty Southern comfort food that draws loyal diners despite some service hiccups.

Lot of good reviews but honestly I wasn't impressed. I live in Bean Station and drove to Rutledge just to give this place a try. We waited for what seemed to be 35 minutes or longer for our food after ordering. The waitress said they had a big party come in before us and they were trying to get those orders done. Ok no problem. I mean it's Saturday and we weren't in a hurry. When we got the food I asked for well-done hash browns and they weren't even brown (they were still completely white). The gravy just wasn't good at all honestly I would have rather had can gravy. I asked for overeasy eggs which 1 was but 1 yolk was completely cooked hard. My wife ordered scrambled eggs and they were runny. She took one bite and literally spit them out. I mean really how to you mess up scrambled eggs. Next time we'll just go to Morristown and get Davey Crockett or Hillbilly Cabin.
To all you haters I believe your gripe is not the food but maybe it's because of their faith and beliefs!!!! The food was great even though all is not homemade but still was great. I say try this place and show your support that America is still a great place to live. Anyone leaving hateful reviews just remember they are Christian based and their beliefs should be respected!!!!!! Service: Dine in
