The Axe pub has risen anew post-fire, showcasing stunning renovations that blend modern elegance with its traditional charm. The inviting atmosphere and attentive staff have become highlights, ensuring a warm welcome for diners. While some patrons have noted inconsistencies in food quality and limited choices, many celebrate the revitalized menu featuring locally sourced ingredients, such as delectable fish pie and flavorful pork belly. The inviting ambiance, complete with cozy seating and a roaring fire, makes it an ideal spot for meals after an autumn stroll. Despite minor growing pains, The Axe remains a must-visit destination.

My experience at this restaurant was truly disappointing. The pub was cold and even though we were told that the heating would come on soon, it never did. To make matters worse, one of our four meals was so terrible that we had to send it back. It is unbelievable that the chef would let such a dish leave the kitchen. Despite traveling a long distance to visit the Axe, we will not be returning.
The restaurant has been refurbished beautifully, in keeping with the building's aesthetic. The staff were fantastic, friendly, and very helpful. Both diners and drinkers are welcomed with open arms, thanks to the excellent job done by the Christou brothers. Chef Dan prepared incredibly delicious scallops for us, and we had a thoroughly enjoyable lunch while taking in the lovely views of the picturesque village.
