What Phat Buoy doesn't like about Rufford Old Hall:
I used to love visiting this place as a child. While the food and drinks are on the pricey side, they are quite good. There are some fascinating historical artifacts to see as well. For free entertainment, you can enjoy a game of swing tennis in the gardens. View all feedback.
This is a great place to visit. a lot to see in the house and really interesting. there are also the fantastic gardens to explore the year at any time. there are several suggested walks along the canal and the family church is some of the time open. as they expect with national trust, there is a parking space, toilets and caffe.
Historical home of the family hesketh. beautiful original old hall and newer (but still old) supplements. not all interiors are publicly accessible and photography is limited only to the old room, which is a scandal. early to see the gardens and walks best, so will later be back in the year.
I've given it three star's because eventhough it's a nice place to visit, after you've been around the house there's not much more to do. Don't get me wrong the house is great inside, plenty of things to see and the staff are friendly and helpful. But the café and shop let the experience down. We visited today and went to the café thinking we'd have something to eat then go around, what we ended up with was first waiting twenty minutes for our food arrive and the only things we could get were a sausage roll and a pastie. But on the plus side the house is worth a look and they have lovely grounds
Beautiful half-day walk in the rufford old hall. the house is open in winter. the personal was very welcoming, especially david, he was professional, and a good stratified counter and other workers were very knowledgeable! quite a lot of parking and highly recommend the NT member, and they can enter free!
Good circular walk starting from the Hall. North along the canal tow path to Sollum returning by the River Douglas embankment to Rufford. Then to Mere Sands Wood return by the New Hall, 12 miles. NT tea to finish the day
