My wife, son and I lived with friends in Ruffec and wanted to stop for a quick coffee and cake. The older lady could clearly see that we fought with the French... read more My wife, son and I lived with friends in Ruffec and wanted to stop for a quick coffee and cake. The older lady could clearly see that we fought with the French language and tried to reach this point, and we didn't want a big lunch as such, but she gave the impression that she couldn't understand English. Then our host told us that she can speak English well. Finally, with the help of the very friendly younger girl we could order a cappuccino, water, small mousse and a piece of quiche. I tried to pay the bill and the young man on the street was the key in which the older lady barked '25 Euro!' and waved her hand off. For some reason, I thought this was about 13-14 pounds, so I paid up (also tipped a euro! and only realized when you go down the road that the euro is currently worth almost a pound. I argue that we were overloaded and the older lady knew that well. Walk over the street, as another reviewer says, where the food and staff are pleasant.

Ruffec beautiful small town and a good lunch break The owners were very helpful with parking advice and we parked right next to the diocese on a blue parking ba... read more Ruffec beautiful small town and a good lunch break The owners were very helpful with parking advice and we parked right next to the diocese on a blue parking bay until the free parking time has expired, then smartly pulled the car... the free parking in the white places next to the market if allowed to do this. The food was good. Nothing cautious, but honest, well cooked food. All four of us enjoyed our meal.
