I love the ease and relaxed atmosphere of the Payneham Tavern. It has an enjoyable cheap classic pub menu with a salad bar to boot. Brings nostalgic of the good ol' country pubs of my youth. The food is good quality for the price and who can go past a free cuppa and a roll of the pokies! View all feedback.

If you don't mind having the place pretty much to yourself. The plus is that the carpark is empty you don't have to line up to order and your meal comes out fast.it does lack atmosphere. I don't think the chef was used to having to cook. the plastic cup was still on the rice for the curry and he came running out with some of the food he forgot to put on the plates.anyway enjoy the quiet. Dined here with my husband recently. My steak was inedible-very tough and the vegetables were a few bland frozen generic carrot and broccoli. My husband had the salt and pepper squid (only 2 pieces)with the most inspid salad of limp, dry inedible leaves..They have removed the salad/veggie bar and when we asked for the bread basket to be topped up,it was ignored twice!....We will not be returning-huge room for improvement!
Family dinner to celebrate a birthday. We've been here quite a few times and the food has always been great. Unfortunately they may have been having an off night in the kitchen, with an hour wait for the mains and an expensive cut of steak served well done instead of medium and sadly inedible. We didn't bother sending it back as we felt as though it would have taken too long to get a new one. The oysters were tasty but very small. We had planned to order a few desserts but ran out of time. The salad bar has also gone, which is a pity. Hopefully things return to normal next time.

We have dined here on numerous occasions. We must say that our last visit was very disappointing in that the 4 of us had the seafood platter which was a huge disappointment. The fish was over battered, over cooked and still doughy. The calamari was extremely salty and once again cooked to a crisp. The "scallops" seemed like a formed frozen product and inedible - left on the plate. The salad and vegetable bar was nearly empty not refilled and featured carrots presented in different ways. Must have been cheap that week. We were not happy with this experience.
