We tried this restaurant from Tripadvisor reviews and were not disappointed. Don't let the brightly coloured chairs put you off as the food is eye opening too. Run by an extremely friendly husband and wife team, the food was outstanding. Every dish was carefully crafted and beautifully presented. The service was excellent, but not intrusive. The restaurant is small and intimate, but boy does it pack a punch with the flavour of it's food.
Even though they were very busy when we visited, the staff were so friendly and kind. I ordered the bouillabaisse which was the most amazing meal I have ever had in my life, I definitely recommend it if you want to try something authentically French. My friend ordered moules frites which were amazing, and it was such a beautiful place to have lunch.
We came with eight people. So there is always a bit of fear about the logistics. But everything was perfect. The quality of the food and the variety of choices, great bouillabaisse, snails, and other French dishes, as well as fried chicken with french fries for the less adventurous among us. We did the prix fixe, three courses for 17 Euros. The quality and quantity for all three courses was impressive. The ability to deliver all dishes near simultaneously was also impressive. All in all, we had a five star experience for a three star price. A typical French small town restaurant experience also in that the restaurant itself doesn't look very impressive, instead it lets the food and service speak for itself. Clearly the restaurant is also a locals' favorite which really adds to the ambience. I'm sure there are other great restaurants in Royan, but I'm going to stick with this one for my next visit too.
We are a family with one child and a baby. The reception is very kind. The food is great and not expensive!
I had eaten as well as this in my life, not until I stopped at a litlle place in Blaye two days later, but it's like that in France: some places the food is so good you cannot get any better. I should say by UK standards the place is expensive, but then everywhere is expensive in France as far as I can see (save house prices). But oh if this place was over here...
