What User doesn't like about Sun Nong Dan Rowland Heights:
One of the best Galbi Jjim in California. Price on the top, but worth the money. Make sure to come with at least 3 people to order the Galbi-Jjim. Huge service and made to order. Dedicated parking in front of the restaurant. The staff was helpful, but not friendly. Lack of banchan selection, kimchi was not strong enough for our party. During our last visit, the Galbi-Jjim was not spicy or tasteful enough, despite the... View all feedback.
There’s always a wait at this restaurant! They do check your vaccination cards before seating you, so remember to have those handy! The server was incredibly friendly. I was initially hesitant about the spice level of my dish because I had visited another Korean restaurant where the spicy option was overwhelmingly hot—on par with fire noodles. So, I was worried about selecting their spicy option, but I ended up going with the spicy rather than medium, and it turned out to be just right! The server noticed my hesitation and kindly suggested that my group choose spicy instead of mild, offering to provide me with a drink if it turned out too spicy. Thanks for that! We ordered item number 24, but I was a bit disappointed to find only six rice cakes in the dish. However, the meat and flavors were wonderful! I think it could easily serve 3-4 people. I'm definitely looking forward to returning to try their soups! Also, each dish comes with either purple or white rice, which I appreciate. I love when restaurants provide the same number of bowls as there are people at the table!
The service was prompt, and I noticed call buttons on the wall, though we didn't need to use them. We ordered the Koh galbi jjim, adding cheese and rice cakes for an extra $6 each. The oxtail version of the dish costs $5 more, and we received about four pieces. The medium portion was more than enough for the three of us, with leftovers to take home. You can choose between white or brown (purple) rice, and the meal comes with three appetizers as well. This place is great for larger groups, but they also offer individual portion entrees. I highly recommend adding the cheese; while the rice cakes are optional, we particularly enjoy tteobokki, so we treated ourselves to those as well.
The service was exceptional! I ordered the Braised Beef Short Rib (Galbi Jjim) and it was absolutely delicious—a truly satisfying meal! I can definitely see myself returning. I left around 7:45 PM, and by then, a long line had formed.
11/5/21 2nd visit. Order for togo. To go quality is also good as much as dining in. Servers are still nice even they are busy. I like this restaurant. —————— First, Price is heavy but the quality of the taste is covered everything. 2nd, It’s open until late night. You can grab some good quality food with dining in. 3, Service is really awesome. The only reason why i gave 4 stars is the price is high. But no regrets. It’s really good place.
Finally was able to try this place, after have it on my list over 2 years. I would like to say that it is pretty good… but this place is expensive. I believe I would come to try their Galbi Jjim at least once, but not sure if I would come back, unless I was craving Sulung Tang Beef for a lighter meal when it’s cold or if someone was sick … The Infamous Galbi Jim, it was pretty good… but not sure if it is $80 good. To top it off if you want the burnt Mozzarella cheese, it will cost you an extra six dollars. The beef was delicious, and inside there was rice cake, potato, carrots, and smaller slices of beef. Again not sure if I would pay that much, maybe $50, but $80 … The Sulung Beef was just like I would imagine it. Nice and clear, with some dipping sauce. We had to make sure we ask for the salt and green onion. This Sulung dish, plus the Galbi Jjim added together over $100 already, plus if you decide to dine in, well 15% tip, you can do the math… I do have to note that their BanChan was pretty good. They had three different ones, a green onion, radish, and traditional kimchi. I’m glad I finally was able to try this place, but my wallet wasn’t. Like I said before, if you haven’t tried this, I would recommend eat least you try it once. Either way for me, if I come back, it would most likely be a rainy or sick day. Thanks for reading till the end, until next time !
