Located through a small door on the right side, upstairs, is a cafe with a view of the main street. It appears to be popular with older clientele. What claireschmid doesn't like about Wards Kitchen:
This restaurant is a cozy, old-fashioned spot located on the first floor above the shop. Unfortunately, the coffee was not enjoyable, nothing like a traditional cappuccino, and the fruit scone crumbled into tiny pieces, making it impossible to spread butter or jam on it. It's a shame. This little cafe is great and they do the best home made scones. All the food is home made from cakes to lovely lunches, they also do sandwiches and snacks to order. The staff are really helpful and friendly.
Been here many times before. Went this morning , coffee luke warm , asked for scone , none ready and offered a rockcake but it was yesterday's. Never drank the coffee left after a few minutes . Very disappointed.
Bit expensive. Cheese scones are really good but are getting smaller and dearer. Staff very somber. Not much personality.
My husband I have had lunch here quite a few times. The food is good and reasonably priced. I believe the hot meals are made on the premises. The eating area is up a steep flight of stairs, so no good for those with mobility problems.
Simple menu and portions are not huge but its tasty. Its a quiet place to rest your tired shopping feet. The best thing is the cheese scones.
