I try to stick to a rule to not visit a restaurant in the last hour of service but I wasn't aware of their closing time, and the hostess said it would be no problem to seat and serve us. With the young lady being so accommodating we took her offer. We had been to Ippy's once before on a family reunion dinner but this time we sat in the parlor area, which was a nice bar area with pool tables and sufficient space for other bar/restaurant activities. We just kept the ordering to cheeseburgers, which came recommended from my lady's brother. The recommendation was spot on. Ippy's makes a pretty good burger that is more like a steakhouse burger in size and char-grilled taste. My mashed potatoes and gravy paired well. About the time we were finishing up a fellow hanging out at the bar was heading out and offered to buy us one for the road. Unfortunately, I had to drive so I couldn't catch him on this one, but maybe if we meet again in the future we will definitely take him up on the offer and buy him one as well. All in all, we really enjoyed our food, service, and the kind atmosphere of the people. I always enjoy my time in Rocky Mount and we will make Ippy's a staple restaurant in future visits.
