Everything was great. I ordered the blackened sea bass. It was delicious, although it was very thick and a little bit undercooked (in my opinion). I did not request to have it sent back, but based on how nice our waiter was, I’m sure it would have been addressed. : View all feedback.
What User doesn't like about Mitchell's Fish Market Rochester:
The Sommelier had on such strong cologne that we did not bother to taste the wine but chose to have a direct pour and then wait minutes for the smell to leave before we tasted the wine The Sea Bass was so drenched in oil and salt that we could not taste the fish. The Crab Cake and Shrimp was mostly tasteless This is a star restaurant with a star price Understand why it was empty View all feedback.
I dined here in April, absolutely amazing food. I loved the calamari we had for our starters. Some of the best I've had in ages. However, service was a bit slow. The place wasn't packed, but it still took a while to get our entrées, and even our drinks. Otherwise, lovely place with delicious seafood and top shelf drinks. Lots of parking, great location, ample seating.
I came in to order some appetizers before my main. I ordered six oysters and shrimp cocktail. When the appetizers arrived The shrimp was super slimy that it left goo and residue on my fingers. The oysters smelled and had foam on top of them and were stuck to the shell. I am never one to not pay for my food . so I asked for my check and discreetly put the food aside. The bartender which mind you was absolutely amazing her name is Kristy. Asked me about my food and why I was not eating it I told her I still wanted to pay for it she said absolutely no and went to the back to help get it addressed and then taken care of. The manager ended up coming out to me. Told me I must not know about eating oysters, shined a flashlight on me and then proceeded to shine a flashlight onto the oysters while tapping them with a knife and telling me that I did not see foam but I was looking at the shell while he was tapping it. Whether or not I have experience in eating oysters(mind you I do) that entire experience was extremely demeaning, disrespectful, and very off-putting. I’m not sure who this manager is but I hope he reads this and thinks definitely how he treats customers. I want to add one last note that again the bartender was absolutely amazing and I’m thankful she was there
We used to go to the Mitchell's in Birmingham and had fond memories of meals there. We had dinner on a Sunday evening in Rochester (Hills? . When I made the reservation, I mentioned that we were celebrating a milestone anniversary. The young man on the phone said that something special would happen because of that. It didn't. The service was very slow. Our waiter was polite and pleasant and we waited long periods of time in between his appearances. We wondered if he had tables in other sections because it wasn't crowded where we were. My husband's halibut had some kind of seasoning that was extremely salty. I had a steak which was perfectly cooked. It had some kind of shrimp topping which would have been tastier with less salt. Perhaps our memories of the first Mitchell's had raised our expectations. The 5 stars were the result of flying fingers. The food was a 4. Our calamari appetizer was delicious, as was the lobster bisque. The service was a 3 at best.
The seafood we ordered was good. It was my wife's first time and she wants to come back. The service from our waiter was great but the busser that was literally running through the restaurant to clean tables was a little off putting. He was working hard but it wasn't busy and it got old after it happened a number of times.
Loved the clam chowder, lobster bisque, seafood Americana, mitchell sea food trio, spicy crispy shrimp and creme brulee!
