Boulevard Brew - River Oaks
Boulevard Brew
Description
Boulevard Brew has recently transitioned under new ownership, sparking a flurry of mixed reviews. While some patrons appreciate the cozy atmosphere and enjoy specialty drinks like Thai Tea and seasonal concoctions, others report disappointing service and a decline in quality. Changes to operational hours and an unwelcoming attitude from staff have left some feeling unwelcome. Regular customers express frustration at perceived complacency, while newcomers have been pleasantly surprised by the inviting space and community events. Despite the contrasting experiences, it’s evident that Boulevard Brew has room for improvement as it navigates its new identity.

I can not recommend the dirty matcha frappe enough. Lovely atmosphere and staff.
My wife and I visited Boulevard Brew on Monday. Before I go into further detail, I want to mention something that Brad, the owner, noted in his response to my wife's Yelp! review. He stated that he reviewed his security cameras before responding, and presented a transcript of their interaction as if it were a video. I would like Brad to upload the video to a public platform like YouTube or Facebook so that everyone can see what actually happened during the conversation. It is clear that my wife was genuinely upset by the experience, as she has never posted a negative review before. Websites like Yelp!, Google Reviews, and Facebook allow customers to share their experiences in order to help others make informed decisions. I believe sharing the video will eliminate any confusion and show the true nature of the situation.
I frequently visit this coffee shop and have always enjoyed the drinks I've ordered. My partner's daughter especially loves their Thai Tea and always asks us to bring one home whenever we go. The service is friendly and the back lounge is great on Friday nights. I've also participated in their painting and brews events, similar to paint nights, and have seen live musicians perform there. It has a relaxed and laid-back atmosphere.
This review is based on the service. I have to preface this with, I am a picky coffee drinker. I like what i like and i usually get Starbucks caramel frappuccino. That said my husband has made it a point to take me to different coffee shops to experience different coffee. I have found that not many compare to Starbucks i 'm not saying Starbucks coffee is the best, its just what I like) Anyway Blvd Coffee was empty when we went in I think it was 12:00 and no one ever came in while we were there but i was trying to not ask a million questions so i told the guy behind the bar I usually drink the caramel frappucino from starbucks do you have something similar? He immediately started keying it into his cash register and said yes before i can finish my statement. I asked if he could do it sugar free and with a slight attitude he said we have Sugar free caramel syrup I said yeah that 'll work! I use SF caramel syrup at home and it works just fine so i thought it would be fine. When i got the coffee I was excited about it I was going mmmm ready for a delicious cup of coffee, well it wasn 't bad but it wasn 't as sweet as i normally like it. I asked the guy if he can add a little more syrup because it wasn 't as sweet as i like it. He then proceeds to say what do you want i added 4 pumps do you want natural sugar? I told him no can you add another pump because i use SF caramel syrup at home and it usually sweetens it just fine. I realize different syrups have different levels of how sweet they can be) so just adding a little bit more would have done the trick. But he acted as if me asking him to add some more syrup was the worst thing I could have done. I left but was upset that he acted that way for something so small imo so i immediately went back in because I no longer wanted the coffee and threw it away and he said THANK YOU with a smart attitude. I called and asked who the owner of the coffee shop was and suprise, suprise the guy that helped me was the owner. So moral of this review I think this coffee shop makes too much money so they may not be interested in having your business so you may want to think twice about spending your hard earn here because they may feel that you are a bother instead of a valuable patron of their establishment.
New ownership ruined this place. People who work nights used to be able to get a beer when they opened. Walk in, go back to the bar, dude doesn't come back to us, even when customers clear out. Bubblegum pop playing was a sign, too. We go ask what's up, tells us they don't serve beer until 1pm now. Place closes at 2. All it had going for it was its atmosphere anyway. Never had good coffee or food, even under previous ownership. Lame.Addition: new owner responded to this review, assuming that was our first time in since. Never said that in the above paragraph. Says a lot right there. The kind of people who make assumptions. We were in for coffee and a snack the week prior, but thought we'd give it a 2nd chance. There will be no 3rd.
