Good opportunity to try good food of the Basilicata region, with an amazing environment around. I would recommend most of dishes of the menu and in the end also try a drink called nutelino. View all feedback.
My grandfather was born in Rionero in Vulture, Basilicata, in 1896. We visit our cousins annually. During our most recent trip, we were taken to Il Casale dell' Acqua Rossa. Located near the Castelli Fredrik II and the famous Lagi Monticchio, Il Casale is a farmhouse that dates back more than 1,100 years. It contains a wonderful restaurant and has 6 rooms for rent. We asked that we be brought a variety of piatti tipici think of it as a series of appetizers to be shared by the table. The varieties seemed endless, from prosciutto to zucca di fiori to stuffed peppers to salumi e formaggio to grilled vegetables, etc. Local olives and bread accompanied the dishes and a bottle of the region's famous Aglianico del Vulture a red wine prized for its robust complexity was enjoyed by all. We ate until we could eat no more; then the 5 of us shared some dolci e espresso. Fortunately I was seated when the bill arrived: the food was a staggering 62 euros total for 5 hungry eaters. A definite stop for those visiting Basilicata.

Eating at an agriturismo is always an experience, in terms of the quantity and quality of food presented. But this place is truly special. We are from the area so whenever we return home for a visit in the summer, there is always one meal planned at this establishment. The sheer quantity of food is insane, but it is all local, fresh, typical food. From a variety of cheeses and cured meats, to freshly prepared vegetables, from the tastings of fresh pastas and grilled and roasted meats...one could argue way too much food, but all of it like nothing you've ever tasted before! One of my favorite places in this area!
