We booked a couple of days before, which is probably advisable as there were a lot of tables booked and we even saw some turned away, who'd arrived on spec. Freindly patrons, and quick service. The Assiette de Conflent' was euros. Slightly overpriced for...Lunch in France but was excellent. All local produce, cheese and pate. The local jambon was particularly good. Had variety and quality of ice cream. The location (... View all feedback.
What Vicky West doesn't like about Des Gouts et des Couleurs:
the hotel is located in the beautiful village eus, this restaurant should have the perfect facility for a family dinner. unfortunately it took almost 2 hours to get a few krepps and an salat. the waiter is terrible arrogant. that's a shame that's actually eating. good View all feedback.
First of all a very friendly serviceIt's ok for a stop while visiting and having a snack: quiche or local ham sausage and cheese or crêpes (pancakes) with different stuffing or just an ice cream; coffee or wine or plain mineral water ( I like "menthe à l'eau ") And you will be just delighted!
Eus is a just a splendid village and the restaurant is perched between the houses, in a small place, calm, relaxing, lovely. The view of the Canigou is stunning. We can see the summit, the surroundings. The restaurant as a friendly staff, the prices are not very expensive. Don't wait for an excellent lunch, it is merely tasty with both local products and drinks. For me, it's almost an obligation to stay some minutes, take a drink and seeing the view.
I went to Eus really early on a Saturday morning when everyone as still taking it easy. No probs parking and then climbed the many steps up to the church. By accident, it was open with a local man providing a guided tour to one person. So I sat down to absorb. The iconography is excessive and colourful but would be probably very appealing to devout Catholics. The café was just opening when I was finished exploring the beautiful village. About 11am, a very friendly lady served me a great pot of jasmine tea made with leafs. I sat, relaxed and enjoyed the panoramic views and ambience that Eus has to offer. By midday, the place was packed and the food looked great.
Eus is a tiny village perched on a hill overlooking the Tet valley. Great for a walk in real country to build up a thirst and an appetite, then…. Local beers and ciders, as well as wines. Simple lunches of salads and pizzas, freshly made on the spot. Friendly staff, and no pressure to move on after. Restaurant is set mostly outside in a mediaeval courtyard, so not for wet weather!
Eus is one of those medieval French villages where the Church has commanded supreme geographical dominance and dictated ordinary people to climb to its very summit to worship. Today, tourists follow that same ascension and will find, half way up, a small terrace with stunning views out to Pic Canigou and within the shadows of a very mature central tree is "Des Gouts et des Couleurs," a bar, a bistro, a venue that regularly hosts jazz, menus that change on the black board at regularly intervals and above all a welcoming friendly smile from behind the bar. The restaurant is tiny but colourful and charming and on a day like today with clear sky and extraordinary visibility, Eus and its "Gouts et des Couleurs" is a must. Well done, very charming
