I had lunch at this restaurant, and it was absolutely fantastic! The food was delicious, the atmosphere was wonderful, and the owner even welcomed my dog and spent time at our table. I had an amazing experience and will definitely return! The staff went above and beyond to ensure we had a great time.

We ordered the goat cheese and hummus on ciabatta, which was a joke. What arrived were three thin slices of toast that resembled Melba toast, a tiny marble-sized ball of goat cheese, clearly handmade, which was quite off-putting, and the hummus was just blended chickpeas in their brine—nothing added! No lemon juice, garlic, or salt whatsoever. And this cost R60! I can’t believe it! I feel utterly cheated when I consider the minimal groceries that would have gone into preparing a proper portion. It took a staggering 45 minutes to get this insipid meal. I had to walk into the kitchen twice to place my order because it hadn’t been processed, and I saw dirty dishes left on the floor. I left a R24 tip simply because I was so frustrated and couldn’t wait any longer for my change. If I had more patience, I would have left nothing at all. It’s clear that the owner has abandoned this place; it’s in shambles, and there wasn’t a manager to be found. I am absolutely furious and still hungry after spending R200 and wasting an hour and a half here. DO NOT eat here.

The food was outstanding, with fresh oysters, wagyu steak, burgers, and more on the menu. They offer an impressive variety of Swartland Independent wines, cocktails, and local gins and spirits. The staff was friendly, helpful, and attentive, delivering excellent service with a smile. I hosted a private event here, and everything went perfectly. Thank you to the Alchemist team!

What a charming little spot! The atmosphere feels sophisticated, and the prices are quite reasonable. The coffee is delightful and gives you a warm, friendly vibe—like being with friends or family. Just walking down the street, you might feel a bit shy or embarrassed, but it’s all part of the experience. Plus, it’s a great place to catch up and gossip a little!
