I highly recommend the family platter for four—it includes a generous assortment of brisket, ribs, Jamaican chicken, sausage, along with coleslaw, mac and cheese, and beans. Everything is cooked to perfection! They also have a location in Ouray.

This makes is a fa... read more The Welded Elephant is a very small business that is not easy to see from the main street corner (which has our county's only traffic light). This makes is a fantastic location, since it is less crowded than it deserves to be. Adrian the chef is a master of the BBQ and smoked meats. He used to work as a chef in the prestigious Peaks hotel in Telluride and he obviously knows what he is doing. Lots of tasty ribs, chicken, sausages, beans, coleslaw, etc. But the main draw of Adrian the fire-man is that he used to be a a circus performer and can do amazing performances with fire. If you ask him then he can juggle fire-knives and swallow fire and blow fire-balls and all kinds of impressive and scary stuff. He is friends with Tim, the head chef at the Bon Ton in Ouray and a student of the Tibetan kazoo, and they often get together and entertain us locals with funny shows.

As someone who lives near Lexington, North Carolina, I consider myself a connoisseur of BBQ, and I can confidently say that the barbecue at the Welded Elephant is the best I've ever had, without question.
