Really good food nice atmosphere friendly staff you just need to know Spanish and you're good and sometimes there's a translator but other than the language barrier it's really nice! View all feedback.
What N A doesn't like about La Morena:
This must be said. I ate here again, the newer location 2 doors down. The staff was friendly, but not the other customers. Sitting down to eat I kept being stared at by different families. I was the only white guy there, and everyone else was Hispanic. I eat multi cultural foods all over the place. I've traveled quite a bit, and to other countries, but again I ate here and the vibes were enough to never make me want... View all feedback.
Their tortillas are handmade, and you can watch as your order is prepared right in front of you. Despite the low prices, the food does not skimp on flavor or quality. You can enjoy Jarritos sodas, beer, or regular soft drinks with your meal. As some have noted, the location is somewhat tucked away and not immediately visible from Old Canton Rd., but it’s easy to find—just behind Domino's Pizza in a small strip mall. I’ve never felt unsafe visiting this place. Most customers are locals from Latin America, and while they may glance curiously at non-Latinos coming in to eat at this neighborhood spot, they are always friendly. I’m consistently welcomed with a smile, and the owner has been nothing but nice and accommodating whenever I stop by for food. The cozy little restaurant is attached to a store that sells everything from cowboy boots to phone cards and traditional Latin candies and snacks. You can choose between take-out or sitting at one of the few tables or the bar area. If you're looking for an upscale dining experience, this isn’t the place for you. However, if you want delicious and very affordable authentic food along with great service, then this is the perfect spot. La Morena is truly a hidden gem in Jackson.
I ordered Chilaquiles from La Morena, which are tortilla chips topped with shredded chicken, lettuce, sour cream, cheese (with eggs available as an option), and a generous amount of green sauce. The sauce is quite spicy, which I personally enjoy. This was my first time trying them with eggs, and I think it will be my last; I couldn't even finish half the plate—it was overwhelmingly large! So, if you’re not very hungry, this might not be the best choice for you. Overall, they are delicious. I would recommend getting them to go, as the atmosphere doesn't seem ideal for kids.
It seems this restaurant has changed since the previous reviews. Firstly, the cleanliness leaves much to be desired. Secondly, the tortillas are definitely not handmade. When I inquired about it, the woman informed me that they stopped making them two years ago. I found it quite surprising to pay $7.50 for three tacos, especially when they also charged $1.00 for a glass of water. As someone from Los Angeles, I was looking forward to the authentic flavors mentioned in other reviews, but unfortunately, that was not my experience. The food simply does not measure up to good Mexican cuisine.
If you're in search of genuine Mexican cuisine, you've come to the right place! The staff is incredibly welcoming, and the food is absolutely delightful. The portion sizes are generous, and you can truly savor the freshness in every dish.
This is a fantastic Mexican restaurant! It's a hidden gem with authentic Mexican cuisine. I give it a perfect 10/10 and will definitely return.
