We booked an area in Harlow for a birthday. The food was absolutely delicious especially the haloumi and the Harlow fried chicken! We also tried the chips and dips with pita, which didn’t disappoint. Lovely, cool ambience in the basement bar, especially on a hot day. It does get quite loud, so just keep that in mind. Otherwise, loved it! View all feedback.
What Meg A doesn't like about Harlow:
Disappointed in the halloumi was cold and very squeaky. Bao Buns were yummy but I wouldn't call the spicy sauce sticky is was very thin and not thick like you expect of a sticky sauce. This place is good if you don't want staff to be interacting with you as you order your drinks at the bar and you order food on the app. I did love the dog mural on the upstairs beer garden. This restaurant is awful. The pub food in Melbourne is the worst. I paid $20 for a plate with only three chips and a prawn on top. I can't believe they would actually serve something like this. The food, service, and atmosphere are all disgraceful, with a rating of 1 for each.
Our host, Ben Lougoon, proved to be an enthusiastic and exceptional manager at Harlow. His dedication to customer service and attention to detail ensured that all of our needs were met. The well-trained staff also provided top-notch hospitality, making sure we were well taken care of throughout our meal. From the outside, Harlow may appear like your typical old pub, but its recent upgrades have made it a popular spot for both locals and visitors. While the front bar maintains its authentic charm, the back area opens up to spacious sections that can accommodate large groups. The outdoor beer garden, equipped with a retractable roof, proved to be a fantastic setting for dining on the sunny November day we visited. Additionally, Harlow offers a rooftop function space, a private area in the basement, and an underground bar for late-night visitors. As for the food, we dined in the cozy beer garden area and indulged in a variety of dishes, including potato salad, curried cauliflower, coleslaw, macaroni cheese, and more. The trays of meats and sides that followed were equally delicious, with generous portion sizes that left us feeling quite full by the end of our 90-minute meal. The Bottomless BBQ lunch, priced at $59 per person, offered great value with a selection of meats, side salads, and beverages. Overall, I would highly recommend Harlow as a venue for gatherings, catching up with friends, watching a game, or simply hanging out. The food is excellent, the service is exceptional, and the atmosphere is lively. Don't miss out on their weekly specials, and be sure to check their website for upcoming events. Team Harlow has done a fantastic job! Additional notes: Harlow offers seating on Church Street, wheelchair access to all floors, kid-friendly options, and accommodations for dietary restrictions. There is a billiard table and large TV screen in the bar. Parking can be a bit challenging in Richmond, but public transportation options are available nearby.
I can't speak to the service since I was invited, but the manager was genuinely interested in hearing about each table's personal experience with this new dining option. The food was amazing - we enjoyed BBQ'd meats, salads, and sides that were all delicious. Some highlights for me were the drunken lamb ribs, bourbon BBQ pulled meat, and beer brined chicken wings. The pork butts were also a pleasant surprise. Grannies potato salad, mac n cheese, and cauliflower salad were all standout dishes. Even the simple white bread with butter was surprisingly tasty. And let's not forget about the drinks - the Aperol Spritzer was a personal favorite. Whoever came up with the idea of a bottomless BBQ brunch is a genius. I highly recommend visiting Harlow Hotel for this unique dining experience. It's a must-try!
Harlow is the revamped version of the old Great Britain Hotel, offering a modern and stylish atmosphere with a great outdoor space and various chill-out areas. The beer selection is mainly commercial, but they do have the White Rabbit Dark Ale available. The gin served is Four Pillars, which is a highlight. Unfortunately, the service was lacking, as the bartenders seemed distracted and inattentive. Despite the improvements in decor and ambiance, the inconvenience of having the men's restroom located downstairs was confusing. Overall, Harlow is a significant upgrade from its predecessor, but the service could use some improvement.
Delicious! I came here for a work outing and we ordered a whole heap of smaller dishes to share. Such a good idea as each dish had enough for 4-5 people to each try some and there were enough varied dishes that everyone got something they liked. They have the usual suspects, but also some interesting and bold favours that got us talking (and enjoying). Most notable was the dipping sauce for the chips (deviled keens mayo). This was a clear fave with everyone. peaches with the halloumi is also another combo that was striking contrast but that fits together so well. The cheeseburger empanadas tasted just like cheeseburgers, the HFC and the eggplant were also all highly rated. The venue itself is spacious and open and will likely be a winner come summer with its open courtyard and acceptance of dogs. I really rate this place and look forward to coming back.
