What Diptych doesn't like about Sun Inn:
Further to my previous review (and long-held opinion) I was surprised on a recent visit that a football match was to be shown on all screens on a day when the only local Premiership team, Harlequins, had an important televised game. Always pop in the Sun if we're in Richmond as the service has always been quick and friendly along with good food served. This is a proper pub not a plastic imitation of one and well worth a visit if you are in the area.
A cheeky pre drink before the theatre. Rugby themed pub was full of interest but the lady behind the bar made no eye contact or demonstrated any warmth to us as customers. I dont think she was enjoying herself very much
This restaurant is excellent, with a welcoming atmosphere and local feel. I will definitely be returning whenever I am in the area. The staff are friendly and it feels like a tribute to rugby history.
The Sun Inn definitely isn't the trendiest pub in Richmond, but along with the Britannia it is my favourite. Old fashion, cozy rugby pub. Hearty and unpretentious food at very reasonable prices for the area. Chilli con carne and the weekly curry night both tasty and great value. Plenty of cool rugby memorabilia I love watching sports in here staff always v. friendly. Glad they are sticking to their roots rather than trying to become a gin/wine bar or fancy gastropub like several other places in the area
This Richmond pub has a great atmosphere and a fantastic collection of Rugby memorabilia, giving it a true pub feel. However, it is starting to show signs of aging, which takes away from its potential. With some tender loving care and a small investment, it could be brought back to its former glory. Hopefully, they will make the necessary improvements soon.
