What Graham H likes about The Captain's Boil-Thornhill:
Travelling from B.C. and our hotel just across the street we needed a good Lobster dinner and found it at the Captains Boil. We read the lobster was served in a plastic bag and all necessary equipment was supplied for us to dig in with hands only. I throughly enjoyed my meal, the potatoes and corn were delicious and the lobster was so good just dripping in garlic and butter. I had so much fun with the unusual way of... View all feedback. What Therandman doesn't like about The Captain's Boil-Thornhill:
I understand the concept, but I was really put off by having to eat out of wet plastic bags while wearing one-size-fits-all plastic gloves. On top of that, not having any cutlery and drinking out of plastic cups is not my preference. The garlic flavor was too strong and, even though the portions were generous, I won't be coming back because I'm not a fan of the concept. However, the restaurant was packed, so I suppos... read moreThis restaurant offers a unique dining experience where guests are encouraged to eat with their hands, use plastic gloves, and wear bibs. While some found the food to be delicious, others were disappointed with certain dishes, such as the lobster bisque that turned out to be more like a broth soup. The beverage selection was also limited, and the noisy atmosphere was a drawback for some diners. Despite these downsides, the overall recommendation is to give this place a try at least once, with suggestions for improvement including draining liquid from the entree bags before serving and expanding the alcoholic beverage selection. Overall, the service was hit or miss, but the food was generally tasty, especially when paired with the unique experience of getting messy while eating seafood with your hands.
The pros: Tasty food. Casual atmosphere. Fun concept. The cons: Way too much liquid in the food bags. Food is initially too hot to pick up with your hands. Too...
